For a few days now, my n810 isn't able to IM and says everyone is offline. Is jablet down, or is something wrong on my n810?

I'll ask Jay.

Jay said a month ago that it occasionally goes down, and for unknown reasons the service doesn't come back automatically when the server comes back up. Hopefully he'll see my note.

Constant outages from the provider have pretty much killed everything I wanted to really do with the Jabber server. I'm beyond frustrated with them. If there were a decent amount of people still using it, I would have continued on with it, but since it's gone down about a week or so ago, only one other person aside from you two have asked about it.

That gives you a pretty big hint as to how much impact both the RTCOMM release and the frustration of the server dying so often had on our users. And who could blame them, honestly? Having stable direct connections to the various IM platforms was pretty much the holy grail for chat users.

Even though I ultimately feel like I failed in my objectives for Jablet, we did fill a void for tablet users for a little while and maybe even signaled to Nokia that end users wanted more out of their software. Okay, maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part.

These days, I just don't have the motivation or the time to work on anything like this anymore (videogame industry crunch time, gotta love it)... so if anyone's interested, I'll gladly help you get it all up and running.

I'm sorry.

That's a real shame Jay. I noticed the connection problem a few days ago but wasn't sure if it was another temporary glitch or not so didn't want to bother you.

Is it really not possible to get Jablet back again?

Thanks for all the work you've put in on this so far - and I understand if work pressures are too great.

There's nothing stopping anyone from running a Jabber server themselves, even on their home PC if they were so inclined. I wanted to give you guys a good service that would always be up and updated and so on... but because of crap like the provider going down repeatedly despite 99% uptime claims and my lack of time, I don't really feel comfortable attempting to offer the service when there's no way I can have it at a decent enough level. And hardly anyone was using it anymore anyways.

jablet.net still has a jabber server, so maybe I need to learn more about it so I can provide support myself...

Well, you have no control over it.. it's just Dreamhost's own, but yeah, it will still work.

Might as well keep that one going. I'm taking some days off work next week; hopefully I can devote some time to this. I still think there are needs to fulfill (like my idea about rating sites for tablet friendliness)... just gotta sort 'em out.
