Since the official SailfishX thread has grown gigantic I will throw this bone to it's own thread.

I am not sure whether NFC support is under work by Jolla team or is it something that the community is expected to do? From James Noori comments the latter seems to be more likely.

If it is community driven stuff is it something that is already done and needs porting, or maybe just packaging?

edit: added SailfishX

I think nfc support is already here, there are simply no applications using it right now.

At least /dev/pn54x is already there, libnfc with qt bindings is availible and nfc is no longer listed in the unsupported list on the HADK page. (purely speculating here, might be that it's not functional at all yet)

As of application, anyone tried to use an AndroidApp to utilize NFC?

I built Neard which should support the NXP chip on these sony devices as well as having QtNFC support, but I haven't yet managed to get it to actually do something useful

If anyone else wants to play around with it then be my guest

I tried pairing my Polar V800 with SailfishX with no luck. Here is what happens.

- I open bluetooth from settings
- I start pairing from my V800
- V800 tells me to touch the phone, which i do
- Phone sees Polar V800 and I select it
- Phone says it is now pairing and asks me to write PIN code 00000 on both devices and gives 2 options: cancel or pair - i select pair
- V800 does not present any prompt for pair code (nor it should)
- Phone says it is now paired
- V800 says pairing failed

Looks to me like SailfishX does not know NFC.

I think you are mistaking bluetooth and NFC here.

You can do bluetooth pairing over NFC, but *requiring* it sounds like a terrible idea.

Ok so I was investigating this a bit further and it looks like there is minimal kernel support for the NXP pn547 NFC Chip in these devices, basically just enough to get the thing initialised but not enough to present in the standard kernel HCI way.

Until that is fixed then Neard is not going to work, so it might be worth trying the android route and implementing libnfc middleware instead.

in Sydney we have NFC bus tickets ,and an Android app that reads them. I'll try and see if it works (on sailfish X)

and “for security reasons Opal travel does not support devices that have been rooted”
