Perhaps someone should do a thread devoted to it.
Perhaps like this (sailfish oriented thread) :

It sure ain't easy...
It's like when you are young...
and there is a ledge above a stream...
and the guy with the shortest legs in the world says...
"I think I can make the jump...whaddyu think?"
and it takes a mad amount of will ...
with every possible muscle to restrain from laughing while saying ...
"Yeah man...of course you can make the jump..."

It sure isn't easy...
practice practice practice...

Still waiting on the very first Gemini Thesis Thread here....
{tapping my foot impatiently}

Think he'll still do it??

Hmm...
naw...

gerbick you blew my cover...man..

I have a Gemini PDA and I am quite happy with it. I haven't yet been able to install sailfish or debian.

I considered the gemini...
but held off until there was movement on getting linux running proper on it.

I have kept my eye closer on the vaio vgn ux's ...the 180 280 and 380 ...
and have hovered over the purchase of one for a few years now...
batt life isn't great...
but linux running and having a decent sound card in it ...enough for some rt fx processing ...has been on my menu...

when there is good doc on running linux on the gemini...
I may revisit the prospect.
But...if I am going to consider the gemini...
the pandora or the vaio are more versatile an option in form factor.

Sorta sad that after my N810, I ventured into the OQO 02 and whatnot to satisfy my want for a device with a "decent" keyboard and a form factor that I had grown accustomed to.

In 2018, a lot of broken promises later; I'm nowhere closer to anything that's not old as Hell or outdated or with an even smaller community than this one to support any fan based questions and/or continued development.

Perhaps it is truly the end of an era. Folks are no longer adventurous. And the old stuff just isn't where I want it to be. Worse, battery technology is woefully behind and nowhere near where I'd feel comfortable in trusting an older machine like the Vaio series now - parts have gotten more expensive and rare too.

These new devices really aren't my cup of tea. Worse, they're really pretty downright shitty in fit and finish or I have to lay my trust in a company that I've never heard of before.

Naw. Not for me.

everything you just said ...
is why I have held off on the Vaio ..and others as well...

The most recent purchase I made since the n900 is when I finally broke down and got 3 nexus 5's this year...
primarily to explore linux on them...
They do the trick and am happy with their modern-esque performances...

End of an era?
ok...

I am happy with my nxx0's ...all ..3 models....um...all...
(geez I haven't done a head count lately...the 1 of each I keep out to use daily...
the rest of my backups are in my desk drawer ...mating while I am not paying attention...I think..
I should check on them.)

"Old" is fine in my books...
my n8x0's can run xmms ...tell me which other handheld is able to?
I have film for it...audio books...books...art work I do on them...
streamtuner works still...
rss feeds work ...etc...
Heroes of Might and Magic work...if I feel so inclined...
and more..
I am content.

Frankly everyone moved on to "Faster" "better" ...which is a dubious claim considering...
Everyone moved on...and these great devices have not been explored and exploited to their fullest before they were abandoned...
Same happening to the n900 ...

If the world wishes to move on to some piece of flimsy garbage that touts the "latest" for social media ...or whatever...
I say all the power to them...

Old skool is where its at.

there is a fab feeling of solidity ...of permanence to the n8x0s ...especially...
from the form factor to everything inside.
So I say ...if the world doesn't want smart built and permanent devices...
Let them chase the latest shiny - shiny until an even shinier comes along ...et cetera ...ad infinitum ....ad nauseum ...
since that is exactly what it has become...
with the loss of something truly human from the "self" ...every time...along the way...as cost for the latest ...(not to wax too esoteric...)

I guess we should not be surprised. gnu/linux never has had a significant share of the desktop or laptop markets. Why should we be surprised that it never took off in phones either? We'll still have the occasional odd toy to play with, but nothing like Nokia's glorious Nxxx tablets.
