Thread revival... As HTTPS is becoming the "norm", I am facing more and more websites where http redirects to https with restriction on cypher/algo and so MaemoBrowser or gPodder for instance fails to connect with ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap

I tried to build netsurf but requirements for GTK or Qt are not met.

Does anyone have an option to allow N900 to browse today's internet ?

I have netsurf 3.7 running under Easy Debian and I'm pretty sure I can provide a 3.8 package after the weekend.

Well, Easy Debian has a different environment (pretty much standard Debian Jessie), which sometimes makes it easier to port software.

Anyway, here's an archive of my Netsurf 3.7 build [1] for Easy Debian Jessie/armhf [2].
If you find it useful, please tell me, so that I know if there's even a point to building 3.8!

Edit:
Code:
$ md5sum netsurf_ed_3.7_sulu.tar.gz
e52a54ffa77344b465993a5cceed06f9  netsurf_ed_3.7_sulu.tar.gz

Unfortunately I never took this any further. I didn't get any major response in the threads it was mentioned in and had other projects/experiments to deal with. I may one day pick it up and have another test.

Here's a netsurf 3.8 build for Easy Debian Jessie/armhf:

https://www99.zippyshare.com/v/rMC4Ywox/file.html

Code:
$ md5sum netsurf_ed_3.8_sulu.tar.gz
4db57c387be7eeefcaf3a0532348c2be  netsurf_ed_3.8_sulu.tar.gz
This build is very straightforward, just implanting the current upstream source code into the last Debian Sid package.
I also tried to backport the openssl-1.1 packages from Sid or Stretch to Jessie, to base netsurf on one of those, but I wasn't able to compile it.

Same here. At least, Internet Banking website still works (thanks to ANZ).

When I want to visit a not-important website - to read news, for example - this error can be circumvented by using a proxy website (such as, https://proxy.toolur.com/ ). Basically, a voluntary insertion of a third party in the middle of a connection.

An evolution of that would be to set up a trusted proxy (similar to Opera Mini's proxy servers) which could, besides getting around the no_cypher_overlap error, also filter out advertisements, and simplify the web page for easier rendering on mobile device. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_accelerator

Thank you. Best wishes.

Better solution are:
Install to fap manager a proxy switcher widget.
