Just got a headset designed for gaming, but it works on the Xperia10 with Sailfish. The problem is the microphone sounds awful. If I use it on my Mac it sounds great. I mean night and day difference. Can I do anything to make it work better?

Maybe the Mac gives a lower voltage?

Tested on an old Android 5 tablet too. It also sounds great. Has to be a driver issue, right?

So it happens on all volume levels? And have you tested other wired headphones, different types of music or players? I don't own a Xperia 10, can't check myself.

The first thing that springs to mind is the infamous connector pinout issue. The easiest way to find out is by trying a CTIA to OMTP adapter. It involves spending a few bucks but it may just be the ticket.
