What's the best browser alternative for the N900 (running CSSU-testing) these days given that Microb won't load a lot of web pages anymore (TLS 1.2, ancient browser engine etc)

Opera with TLS 1.2 or micro-b with nginx TLS 1.2. Alternative for mainly reading news Netsurf through Easy Debbie the fastest one but still lacking some java stuff support etc.

If I wanted to go for Opera, what version do I want to install and where do I get it from? (and do I need to do any config changes to enable TLS 1.2 or anything?)

Opera 12, but it crashes whenever it feels like.

You'll need to enable TLS1.2 support in opera:config. I think it was mostly experimental, so expect some bugs.

Check thread I started called "devel upgrades". In very early comments there is told how to update the certificates. Opera CSSU-testing should be ok. And then in opera type to address bar about:config, scroll down to security and enable TLS/SSL 1.2 and save.

I hope it was like that. Have not been using N900 for the summer and today loading batteries again.

Yes, thanks. Just booted my N900 after summer break and switched my sim on this. Aaah how could it feels to type with thnis keyboard. I'm back home. I need to buy an iPhone for work stuff in this autumn but I thnink I will get another sim for that. This just feels so right. Still hoping that Leste would get calls and all that I could switch to that.

I managed to spend an afternoon with Dillo and FLTK and it's comparatively simple for a GUI toolkit.
Dillo loads non-JS sites faster than anything i've tried, give it a try!

Sadly, the UI isn't phone friendly at all. I'd like to rework UI to something close to this:

...or better yet, convince someone who already knows FLTK to do it.

With Opera you need to let it load the page before clicking stuff on the page. Clicking too early sxometimes causes the app to crash. There could be some configs about cache too. And then there is that weird "watchdog" thing lurking somewhere inside fremantle operating system which can cause device to stuck/crash. There is a way to change/prevent that watchdog to jump on you and I have couple of times asked from the gurus about it and mazybe got an answer too but have never really understood what it is and how to turn it off. I think it is related with ram consumption or cpu but not sure. I think that can cause problems also with Opera.
