SOLUTION:
Well I tried to search extensively before posting this, but it turned out that I just did not use the right keywords.
Finally I have found the post here @maemo.org that have the solution! (It seems that the command in the SDK documentation might not be the right one...)

So using this solution, my Xephyr is not showing a black screen anymore! (Thanks "druckertinte" for finding this out.)

Oh, one more thing, if you want to have visible cursors for Xephyr, use the -softCursor option!

This is my first development-related post, so bear with me, please. :-)

So I have successfuly set up the Harmattan Platfrom SDK on a Devuan/Bewoulf 3.1 box installed in Virtualbox (that was a whole separate adventure in itself :-) )

After that I wanted to try out the xephyr, emulator environment.

I am following the instructions written in the "thecrust" website:

But after starting the meego session, the xephyr screen remains black and nothing happens.. :-(
(I also check that the DISPLAY environment variable is correct as a last command...)

That "miners" startup is suspicios, but I do not know anything about that at the moment...

Any ideas what could be a problem?
