aware of it as a maemo alt....yes...
fiddled with it on an n900 yet?
no.

"Back camera is close to supported in 4.14-rc1.

Voice calls work, but needs https://gitlab.com/libcmtspeechdata/libcmtspeechdata and has poor quality

There's bluetooth support at bluetooth-next, but that works on N950, not on N900. Bluetooth . There's a driver ported to 4.13 at bt-v4.13 tree, git.kernel.org, linux-n900

WiFi settings do not work across reboots
The MAC address of the N900 WiFi interface its being randomized at every boot, since the connection profile created with nmtui is bound to the MAC address, it won't work at the next boot.

To solve this, after connecting you can use nmtui to edit the created profile, and remove the MAC address from the "Device" section

Without NetworkManager
If NetworkManager should not work for you, make sure that it is not running and run the following commands to connect to an encrypted network manually: ....

Battery Protection
Currently, when battery gets below suitable operating voltage, the device dies. This is bad for the battery and the file system. Here is a script that monitors the battery, and powers the device off before the battery reaches critical state. For suggested usage, read the program's comments..."

and Hildon is pretty much a lost cause for use on postmarketos on the n900...

All in all...
Not bad...a little rough around the edges ...with the cam, connectivity issues and battery monitoring protection.

If one wishes to use their n900 as a different device ...that is...than familiar hildon...

They fix those few issues and it is pretty much prime time...as an os alt.

Has anyone tried PostmarketOs on N810? It is included at device wishlist as a Low priority device and it says it should have mainline support. I would like to try it out but could not make sense of the installation instructions.

Still trying to snag an N810 at a reasonable price, but if I do I'll be testing it right beside you.

N810 was really close to excellent. The speakers were incomparably good at the time. The 800x480 screen was still best available at the time. And it was transflective! Still readable messages with no backlight in full sun.

Those days are gone (maybe, there might be something good right around the corner).

The keyboard was no-bueno. The dome click and travel was too slight for solid tactile feedback. And Nokia could have made the cursor block usable as a gaming dpad, but they didn't. No biscuit, Nokia. Bad Nokia.

Then there's the sad tale of liqbase which really deserves an entry in computing hall of fame, and wikipedia, and journals. But nobody's told it yet.

PM was installed when I first got my Pinephone, it felt like it was not quite ready at least on that device; but it is a serious and important project which will mature or fork. We want a real OS on used consumer grade android hardware and PM is the way to get there, we have the hardware and PM is aiming to put a real linux soul into it and give it new life.

They don't like it to be called PM
must be pmOS or postmarketOS

Don't forget Mobian as a great Debian-based alternative

I am using mobian now. If I could get a good battery drain rate, and it is getting better with updates, the Pinephone w/mobian would be my daily driver at this point I think despite being beta in basic OS services and alpha in secondary services like video playback.
