The largest reason I bought my n810 was for the GPS.. I thought hey, traveling around and finding sights will be a breeze. Turns out maps of Korean and Japan don't seem to exist as far as WayFinder or Maemo Mapper is concerned. I spent yesterday evening installing dictionaries with great success. Jumped the hurdle of becomeroot and installed python 2.5. Hopefully there is a method for adding maps? The GPS seems to give me a location, but it doesn't know what to make of it since I have no maps that correspond to coordinates it is supplied with. I'm installing Chinese/Japanese/Korean fonts as we speak.

Thanks for any help or advice!

I don't have gps, just a plain n800 with maemomapper. I have no problem downloading detailed Google/Yahoo maps (level 3 or 4?) of a certain section of Osaka where I visit often. What I do is starting from a big area (e.g U.S.), move to a destination, and continue to zoom in.

Thats odd. Maybe I was having connection issues? I couldn't seem to get it to download any details. I'll try it again. There wasn't anything you downloaded extra that you man have forgotten about at some point?

Also, for maps, it seems to only list OpenStreet. Is there anything special i Need to do to get Yahoo and Google maps?

Alright an update, I've searched the archives for a list of repositories, but every time I go to download maps for Google Street or Virtual Earth or something, Maemo Mapper freezes. Is there a way I can save the maps to my hard drive and then move them over?

To prevent potential freezing, I usually download one (or two) zoom level at a time (under "manage maps" >> "zoom"). I save all files to a 4gb sdhc card (under "manage repositories"). Can't really tell you anything about saving on a hard drive, but I am sure somebody out there can give you a good answer.
