Come on people, for most people it's an electronics device and not a profession. I enjoy my n810 but I would NEVER EVER recommend it to anyone I know to buy.

So, are you saying we should evaluate software differently just because it is free?

I have the same sentiment...I like my N800 and find it quite useful, but I also realize that it requires a certain level of "care and feeding". By that I mean if you want it to perform the way you want and have the newest features, you have to spend a fair amount of time reading ITT, re-flashing it, downloading betas, etc. I think that is part of the geek-joy that a lot of ITTers get out of the device--we are a tinkering bunch by nature, I think.
For people who don't have that inclination, other products on the market might be better suited. (And yes, that means the iPod Touch or iPhone, as much as I lament having to say it...)

So, are you saying we should evaluate software differently just because it is free? The OP has gripes with the map management and UI of Maemo Mapper, but you don't address that, you attack him for criticising Gnuite's program. It seems to me you're doing exactly what you're accusing others of doing: Attacking the person and not the issue.

Everything else is rather painful to use, free or not its just like stabbing yourself in the face with a spoon.
Two things happen: its the programmers preference of how the application should be rather than thinking like a normal user... or its just a plain mess of a port.

Maemo Mapper is a total joke as far as map management is concerned
