Hm, I tried the latest files on my os2008, n800 with a Canon EOS 10D. Some commands work - like list-files, some don't like --capture-image
What is certain is that almost after every command the tablet reboots.

I tried with the older files (the first posted) same problems. I use my camera in "Normal" mode as oposed to PTP. Using in PTP kinda defeats the purpose because it only allows downloading of files, which I can do with my card reader much faster.

Sorry to be late to the party, but somehow I missed this thread.

gphoto2 is the one thing I really want on my n800.

I'll spend this weekend trying, and report back.

A couple of people reported problems trying to use gphoto2 on a Linksys NSLU2. I got it working with very little problem, but it was an older version of gphoto2 (2.1.6) and didn't do everything I wanted it to. I used the OpenSlug firmware, which has gphoto2 as a precompiled package.

I tried a Canon PowerShot S50 with the s10sh tool today, and it caused the N800 to reboot every time, which makes me think that it isn't gphoto2 causing the rebooting, it is something about the USB connection to the camera, or how it is being used by these programs.

hmm, on my Canon 10D s10sh worked every time. In a few hours it only rebooted once. As opposed to gphoto which rebooted every time I ran it.

Is it using the USB DMA option to transfer? Someone said in the DVB-H thread, that the USB DMA option is buggy and can cause slowdown. I'm running a kernel I compiled yesterday with Fanoush's features & the removal of the power check & disabled USB DMA.

Good news and bad news folks...

Good News: A new version of gphoto2 was announced yesterday (2.4.1) with more cameras and bug-fixes. Yay!

Bad News: I went through the effort of (again) cross-compiling this on scratchbox for OS2008, and created a debian file out of it (last time I just created tar files). Also, this time I *combined* libgphoto2 and gphoto2 into a single install (it makes sense in this case). However, it seems to be just as flakey for me as it was in the past. Boo!

Anyone else want to take the risk of installing this and reporting back success/failure? This package -- with all the camera modules -- is very large (5.5mb!). Theoretically, one would *remove* all the modules they do not need.

I added this to my 'software' page:

Just found this thread after receiving all the cables that I needed to hook up my Canon A610 to my n810. Sadly I didn't realise the whole PTP issue beforehand, and would love to get it connected - so I'm happy to help where I can.

I installed the deb that was linked to, and despite installing ok gphoto2 can't be found when run in terminal. Any ideas? Thanks!

Scuba04:

Can you confirm that the 'gphoto2' executable is present in '/usr/local/bin'? If it is, and your terminal session cannot find it, it suggests that (oddly) this directory might not be in $PATH.

For a work-around, you could type in the complete path name i.e. /usr/local/bin/gphoto2.

Ironically, even though I ported the code, I don't have it installed on my N800 -- too much space, and too flaky to be useful to me right now

Thanks for the reply. It sure is there, but when run (with or without arguments) I get this error:

./gphoto2: error while loading shared libraries: libgphoto2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Maybe the $PATH issue is also stopping gphoto2 from finding the libgphoto2 libraries?
