I bought a Unitraq BT-5 BT GPS yesterday and I'm having trouble pairing it with my N800/2008 system. I can see it, but when I try to pair it, the BT icon lights for a second and then says "pairing failed, athentification failed, try again?". Is there a specific pin I should enter or should the random one from the NIT work. The manual for the BT-5 is almost nonexistant - at least useless at best! Other members of theis forum have been successful with it and I would love to know how they did it.

TIA

Never had BT GPS unit but problems with pairing are common when batteries are almost empty. Try to put fresh batteries in GPS unit.

It has rechargeable batteries and I charged them for an extra 3 hours or so, but the result is the same. I had no trouble pairing with my Moto phone so I know the N800 is working fine.

I have 10 days to get an exchange for a new unit and then it becomes more difficult to have it repaired so I would appreciate any other ideas - please.

Do you actually need to pair it? At least with Maemo Mapper you should only need to tell MM which BT GPS you want to connect to, and it should work. At least with the limited types of BT GPS units I've tried.

It has to be a specific pin.

Try 0000 , 8888 ,1234 etc

My Navman had the pin of NAVMAN. Which the N800 will not let me enter but the WIDCOMM on my OS2003 PPC did.

cybernut...I just got a BT-5 from Geeks and am trying to get it to work with my old Moto-Q.

I can get it to pair and the Q can see the unit but can't seem to get coordinates. The units red light blinks every second so I guess it has aquired a signal and it transmitting it. Are you using the Velveeta (cheezy) Locate app that came with the GPS or other software?

Also, is there any free or cheap GPS maps out there that don't require a data plan? I don't need an arial view, just the streets.

I used to use Mapopolis (non-gps) maps for finding addresses and went back to buy the GPS version and they are no longer in business.
