I am trying to have my Canola Youtube files save to my removable card and not the internal memory. I was here Saturday and found some instructions but they did not work and I cannot find them again... searched everything I could remember about the thread.

I am a novice so the easier the instructions the better. I know it had some thing to do with the X terminal and apt-get but nothing worked. I got the folder set up on my removable memory and flv files appeared there but the videos are still eating my internal memory and when I delete them through Canola my internal memory grows.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Mndconn :

Sorry (don't mean to be rude at any way) but if you look 3 posts bellows there's a thread which teaches how to do that, and also a search is always a good start before posting

I'm considering that you are new to the forum (by the name of posts) so the tip may help you in the future.

so, the answer from the other thread (by briand )

4) how does it index those files? along with the rest of audio, video & images or does it just recall the previous settings?
5) is there any way of modifying the location (from internal flash, as I figured it out) to memory card (either mmc1 or mmc2...)?
. 1) /home/user/.canola/youtube/videos
. 2) Flash Video (*.FLV)
. 3) the name sent along with the video from YouTube
. 4) it appears to index them when the rest of the media is indexed
. 5) as root, in the xterm shell:
. a) mkdir /media/mmc1/youtube (or /media/mmc2/youtube if you want them in your internal n800 SD slot)
. b) cd /home/user/.canola/youtube
. c) mv videos/* /media/mmc1/youtube
. d) rmdir videos
. e) ln -s /media/mmc1/youtube videos
. f) there is no step 'f'

Thanks for the information. I followed the instructions to the letter and I see the folder on mmc1 with files in there but the videos still are getting saved to my device and not to mmc1.

I did a test and saved a youtube video to disk and my device memory went down while my removeable memory stayed the same.

mnd : so the link is not working, one wrong "/" or a point and sometimes a space can make it not work, if you can check it again...

Also : this is just a quickfix we are adding the support to choose the location of the downloads folder in this next beta, planned to be ready in friday, release date maximum tuesday-wed next week.

HI guys,

if you are having problems and don't feel confortable with ssh, and terminal commands, I would advice to wait for the next upcoming release that fix this issue.

if you still want to try there's several places that teaches you how to do it :

Have the directory names changed or something? I'm pretty sure I got this to work once before, but now after:
mv videos/* /media/mmc1/youtube

I get "no such file or directory."
