Is it possible to have a memory card larger than 8GB stated on the Nokia site in the N810?
For example, a 16GB card (when Launched) inside the N810?

There is no reason not to as 16GB is still an SDHC card which the N810 will support. The only possible issue is you may need to use something other that the FAT32 filesystem, not sure what size it supports up to.

This has actually been asked ad infinitum here on ITT..
The answer is that any size SDHC card you can get your hand on, now or in the future, will work (unless it's broken).

The cards come pre-formatted with the correct version of FAT (i.e. FAT32 for large cards), so that's not a problem either. The only issue is if the card for some reason gets corrupted so that it'll need reformatting, if so then you will need to download the free Panasonic SD formatter tool (search the forum and you'll find a link), and format the card from a standalone SDHC-compatible reader/writer (with your PC).

The 810 CAN NOT use a full size SDHC.

Nokia say's a 810 can use UP TO 8 Gigs. No mention of 16 Gigs. Judging from the past there may be an s/w update when suitable 16 Gig cards are available.

I have yet to see a 16 Gig mini or micro SDHC although I haven't looked for a month or two.

I settled for a 4 Gig micro Class 4. When the time is right, I'll go for the 16 Gig card.

@oldmancoyote1: I'll bet dollars to donuts that no software update is needed to support 16GB or 32GB microsdhc cards when they become available. The N800 supports 16GB SDHC cards right now with the *same motherboard* as the N810 and SDHC and microsdhc are electrically compatible, so I think Nokia's page is just in error.

Nokia probably just said 8GB since that was the largest available at the time. As for the file system, FAT32 can support volumes well beyond the current 8GB card size (up to 2TB according to Wikipedia), but Windows won't let you format volumes larger than 32GB (although it can read and write to larger volumes). Just use a third-party utility to format the card and the N810 will be able to read it fine.

Such a third-party formatting utility is available also on N8x0 in the form of dosfstools.
(probably in maemo Extras repo)
mkdosfs can format all flavors of FAT.

Just to clarify once more:

• SDHC doesn't have to mean full-size SD, there are micro-SD in SDHC format as well.
• As was said already, Nokia states 'up to' some size not because of technical issues, only because that's what they have tested (in other words, what's available at the time). Probably there's some lawyer somewhere who tell them to do so or something.
• As soon as there's SDHC support in the first place, and that support goes over 4GB, then there's no difference when you go to ever higher capacities, except for those mentioned: Possible problems of formatting FAT over 32GB in Windows, and the 2TB current limit of the SDHC 2.0.
• The known limits, or potential problems with SD cards are: > 1GB (old devices) > 1.5GB (some Palms. 2GB works, but can use only 1.5GB.) > 2GB. SDHC support. > 4GB. After that it's the (non-problem of) +32GB formatting, and the 2TB hard limit.

As you can see, with the 8GB support specified by Nokia we have already passed the critical limits - we're in the clear.
