dattani98 is right that the service has been up and down, but it's also obvious Ruslan is working on it and that we're all sitting at the front edge of this technology (very beta). Let's go easy with the stereotypes and keep working together to help make using gtalk2voip with the N770 better. Most of the gtalk2voip services can be tested for free and nobody else on this thread seems to be hung up on money/credibility issues.

For my part, I just got my first call in about 15 attempts to go through and sustain the connection, voice quality was very acceptable with a 2 sec delay.

Ruslan: What more can those of us with 770's do to help you troubleshoot the server problem?

Thank you for good words Markd. Just keep making test calls periodically, so we will get more data to analyze in our logs and see how our intermediate patchings work (or don't work :-)). You are right, I am working on the gateway right now, so it may go up and down.

Ruslan.

I am able to make calls via the 770 to land line no problem, I recieved my first call today from a land line and my new 206 number from IPKALL

Really cool stuff

I noticed a problem with the connection when calling from a new number. If connect to googletalk using the windows client and my ID I am using on the 770, I get invite requests from the numbers trying to call me, once I have accepted them, I can then logon to the 770 and recieve phone calls from that phone number. The problem is without first accpeting an invite from a new number, the 770 will not prompt you to accept it. When the call comes in, my contacts open up, but without the number calling me.

Is there something I am missing, or is this just the way it works?

Thanks,

That's right. That's how Google Talk (as all other XMPP clients) works, every contact in your roster must be invited or invitation must be accepted from them.

We need to all just be patient and give Ruslan any help or troubleshooting he needs. Remember, two weeks ago VoIP on the 770 was not even possible, let alone being able to call landlines or receive calls.

This technology is amazing - finally something useful, not the usual video and MP3 capability that just about every gadget has these days. I am new to this, I had no idea this tech even existed to this extent, and it opens up so many possibilites on the 770.

I have had good success using the gtalk2voip service, but I am being realistic - it's not gonna replace my cell phone, but once the bugs are all worked out, I will definitely be buying some credits. The service does go down occasionally, but it usually comes right back the times I have checked.

Ruslan - do the credits expire after a set amount of time, or do they stay in the account?

But that means I need to know whos going to call before they call, so I can log into a windows box to accept the invitation, this kinds of stinks

Shouldn't the 770 allow me to accept the invitations? Is this still being worked out?

Credits do stay on your balance untill you spend them up. No any kind of expiration is implemented. We are not greedy.

Well, I think it must allow to accept. Every time you get a call from a _new_ CallerID you will receive an invitation which you have to accept. After that it will just hang on in your roster untill you remove it (or make it invisible). Did I understand you right, or did you mean something else ? Could you pls invite me (ruslan.zalata@gmail.com) so we could check your issue on-the-fly.

Regards,
Ruslan.
