I trade currencies through Onada and they use a Java based application as a trading platform. Does anyone know if the N800 can run Java applications as standalone or in the Browser.

Thanks

No. It can't.

Actual Java support is something that I would love to have as well.

We have a remote server app for a product we sell at work that uses Java or ActiveX to remote access, if the N8xx would support Java, I could easily sell several more for use here.

Any ideas if there are any tablets or mobile devices that would?

Some java apps can be run; search for jalimo. Swing isn't there yet, and applets can't be run in the browser yet.

I have run Java applets on the n800... See This Post. I was using Jalimo, which contains GNU classpath stuff, which contains gappletviewer.

I was personally trying to get the java citrix client working, but it ends up it is way too slow. As Benson mentioned, there is no plugin to run applets in the browser yet (gcjwebplugin hasn't been ported), but that would probably create too much additional overhead anyway. However, I found that running gappletviewer with simple portlets seemed to work decent. If you have OS2007 still, you may want to look at PhoneME too.

i have the same problem...
i want to run applets to get my streaming stock quotes...

there are so many posts java support already...i think it is time to
provide feedback directly to nokia... does anyone know the best
way to contact them with n800 feedback...

i think java is the main thing that stops the n800 from being a mini notebook
computer substitute...

(that and support for all microsoft office files...)

The only way I have been able to get real time stock quote is by continually refreshing the quote on my Ameritrade account

You could vote for, and add comments to, maemo bug # 2695.

I'm confused... eveyone keeps saying it is not possible when I keep telling them it is I guess it may not work for some complicated ones, but the steps are pretty easy.

Now it won't work through a proxy, and the performance isn't great, and it may not work with all applets. However, nobody else seems to even be trying this, so I don't know if it is just me. So give it a try !!!
