It was working fine before the last update. Now it just says that host name or port is incorrect, which is not the case. UI shows everything correctly. Network is fine, I can connect on my computer and mnotify works just fine. I've tried to reinstall without any success.

It's time to change this project's name to "apathetic."

They fixed it within 4 days of being notified and the update is due to be released in 3. Explain to me what's "apathetic" about that.

maybe "careless" rather than "apathetic", given their tendency to regress on updates

You really believe they do it on purpose ?
Have you any idea of how difficult is to take care of such a big program ?

I am porting Xournal to Maemo and it's, say, 10% of the work involved in developing modest and still .. so many small things to take care.

So please, be grateful to them.
They're working for you too, after all.

"apathetic" is more for Google GMail IMAP that don't respect standart !!!

Modest is a great project, and seems to managed by great people. They think in term of simplicity and efficiency !

The result isn't perfect, but they have release a beta ... it s a beta don't forget it ...

For many months many people ask to have a beta of modest as other client isn't really good on maemo (it s a point of view). So they have release a beta ...

I said "grateful to them".

Them is referred to the developers that do this work for you on their spare time instead of working or relaxing.

saying that they are careless doesn't mean that I'm saying the are doing it deliberately. That would be if I said they are "evil ba****ds". Which they're not.

As a systems architect, leading a team of developers on projects lasting 12 months plus, yes, I have some idea.

I am grateful. I think modest works really well (but I don't connect to gmail). But it's Friday, so I'm also feeling awkward and annoying
