No, I have even re-enabled virtual memory on the same card as KDE. No problems at all. BTW, that's why I kept getting the message. VM was still enabled. That's why it is always worth formatting the card as VM sets a part of the SD aside.

First post here, but surely the first of many. I've been messing with this install all day, and Im embarrassed to say the first time it messed up was due to me not checking the file sizes. Oops.

The second time it messed up, was because although the files were all copied and had the right sizes, the .bz2 file that I downloaded with my Windows computer wasnt named properly. Oops, my bad #2.

The issue, though, is once I got this far, I was stuck. I fixed the name, and tried to update. No dice. I tried to uninstall, no dice.

Im a decent windows and linux user (Im admittedly no admin, although I do pretend to be one at work ) but I was stumped here. I searched around for information on the debian package manager, and tried to uninstall kde-mmc1 manually from the command line, using just -r and even trying to FORCE it. No dice, again.

But, Im glad to say I tracked down the issue. There is a file called kde-mmc1.postrem in the "/var/lib/dpkg/info/" folder. Inside that file, there were approximately 1,470 "rm" statements, that basically told the package manager that these files needed to be removed in order for the remove to be completed.

So, I deleted all of the rm statements. I use vi, so I was able to remove 1460 of them with one quick command, but the very last one i just changed to an echo statement so I didnt have an empty command set.

I did this and saved the file. I then tried to remove through the application manager. No dice. I then tried to do it using "dpkg -r kde-mmc1". Again, no dice. But, one final time I tried "dpkg -r --force-remove-reinstreq kde-mmc1" and it removed. Finally.

Now that I was able to get the "bad" package out, I once again use application manager to install the kde-mmc1 package. And its installing as we speak. Its been installing for about 10 mins now (the first time it failed, it only ran for like 5 seconds before failing).

So, to sum up, I:

1) Removed all of the "rm" lines from the "/var/lib/dpkg/info/kde-mmc1.postrem file. These were making the --force remove fail.
2) Ran dpkg from the command line using --force to remove it, as such: "dkpg -r --force-remove-reinstreq kde-mmc1"

Im sorry if this has already been posted, I only read through about 25 pages of this thread before searching out my own solution.

ok, decided to re flaash and all installed ok. looks great but cant seem to get any sound, is there a fix for this?

I've read through the first 14 pages of this thread & did a search, but haven't seen this problem yet.

I'm a newbie with trouble installing KDE. (N800, OS2008, 4 GB card in mmc2, virtually empty, I think - don't know how to verify)

Downloaded the mmc2 set of files to my PC, verified file sizes. Ported the install files to mmc2 via cable.
Step #1 (local-mmc2.deb), no problem.
Step #2 (kde-3.5.8-mmc1.deb), after some minutes, error = "not enough memory in target location". Now other software still runs, but trying to save a note file gives same error.

What should my next step be?

PS. What does "reflash your tablet" mean & how do you do it, & how do you know when it is necessary? Can you point me to a link that does a how-to? (see I told you I was a newbie!)

I am sorry to hear you had problems. Well the reflash can be done in windows if you have a PC? Go to the support section and download the update tool.

I am working on a new install process at the moment

penguinbait, I relly need your help, my first install went great but when i tryed to install kde-3.5.8-mmc2 it gets an error saying "unable to install kde-3.5.8-mmc2 installation file corrupt" is there a way to fix this problem? i would relly be thankful if you could help.

can you paste the log in here? Also if you want to PM me a way to IM you , I will contact you and try to help you out.
