I have registered a Jabber account at jabber.cd.chalmers.se, and then registered with their MSN transport (msn.jabber.cd.chalmers.se). All works fine on the 770, my MSN contacts show up as online, but I have to wait around 5 minutes for them to do that.

They also have an ICQ transport (AIM), at icq.jabber.cd.chalmers.se, and an IRC transport at irc.jabber.cd.chalmers.se.

jabber.cd.chalmers.se Doesnt appear to support AIM... Since this is the big one that everyone i know uses (Although i wish they would use IRC or Googletalk) I'm hoping maybe its a problem with the servers I'm using as to why they arent showing up

As I wrote, the address for the AIM transport is icq.jabber.cd.chalmers.se. I haven't tried it myself yet so I don't know if it's working, but I'm using their MSN transport and it's working fine, so I don't see any reason why the AIM transport wouldn't be working too.

This looks like strictly an ICQ transport... Other servers that suport both will give you the aim/icq option... this is just ICQ... trying to register with it, it will not log in my aim s/n wheras other servers that support aim/icq will

I set it up and it sort of works, but none of my AIM contacts are showing up. Any suggestions?

Im using 2006 final and a jabber account at tuff.org.uk, set up the MSN transport with Psi on my Mac (except that the mass of authorisation requests then crashed Psi, so I had to (labouriously) accept them all with iChat) and it all works perfectly, status shows up, everything. There may be some minor problems with starting a conversation, but this could be due to my wireless network and Mercury (on my Mac) not being able to hold a stable MSN connection.

Maybe they improved Jabber support for 2006 final?

Well, I tried the AIM transports on both prolly.org and tuff.org.uk, and both had all contacts show up as offline on the 770, final 2006. Maybe MSN transports have more luck for some reason?

after several attempts i finally had success with adding my AIM account (as in getting the hundreds of authorization mesgs, one for each contact + a confirmation). i used a server from this list: http://www.xmpp.net/bycountry.shtml working my way up in my country until i found one that had open registration (as evidenced by Register not being greyed out and having proper response when right-clicking it in Psi after entering it in under Service Discovery). deepdarc.com was what i used, fwiw.

I've had similar issues with Google talk. Not all of my AIM transport contacts want to show when I use the google talk, but they work fine when I use Gaim (on the PC) or any other jabber client. I think it's a google talk client quirk. I'm using tapioca for now.

Gaim is now available on the OS 2006 porting page (http://maemo-hackers.org/wiki/MaemoGaim)

Cheers, Jan
