When I launch the google maps web page, the part of the screen that normally shows the map remains gray. Is this happening to others?

I got the N810 less than a week ago. Out of the box it was unable to play any videos or mp3s and I had to upgrade the OS to 2.2007.50-2. (I think it was at 48, if I recall). Anyway, just about everything works except for the map drawing.

I have seen screen shots of this working in os2008. For example:

I followed google maps help, but even though I corrected the about:config permissions.default.image to 1 and flushed the cache and uninstalled 3rd party apps and restarted the n810, nothing helped. I also tried turning on shockwave flash and the default plug-in, to no avail.

Please help. Thanks!

Do you have "fit to width" selected? That might cause a problem.

That was it. Thank you. I'm sure this will help others too.

I have just stumbled into this problem, too. As well as affecting any pages using Google Maps, openstreetmap.com is also affected by this problem. Thanks for suggesting the work-around of disabling fit-to-width.

Fit to width is a terrible, terrible "feature" on the tablets, they really ought to remove it completely. It was designed for devices with small narrow screens, but the tablets have large wide screens so they don't even need for fit to width.

I did an article all about this a while back:
