Just caught what you said there; the N900 will be thicker (largely taken up with battery to power it's 3G), have a plastic instead of metal back, and not have a change in battery-replacability? Good to know...

Oh, so what you actually meant was that Nokia is porting iPhone OS for the N900 and requiring developers to pay to make software for it?

I think what he actually means is that Ari's been purchasing turtlenecks and jeans in bulk recently, while Quim works on minimalistic presentation graphics for him.

I guess I fall under that category, so I think I can answer. By complaining and pointing out a device that did things differently, I think the goal is to move the momentum of these devices to meet those same goals.

Most of us (I am assuming I can speak for the 'us' that can't or don't have time to really make the difference) want our device of choice to kick ***, and when we see another device kicking said ***, we ask, "why isn't mine?"

For me, the answer isn't "because I can't make it", because I might... given all other things being equal; but given the time I have for the device; given the other things I have to do in my life; I can't. I feel like (right or wrong) I spent the time finding a device that really could kick ***, and I don't have that much more time to make it kick ***.

I'd like to make it kick ***, and I have spent some time getting my boys involved (to the point where they know the n800 from the n810), but getting us steeped deeper where we can really contribute is a longer process than the life of the nxxx devices, I am afraid. I am trying to get them involved with Python, but it is a bit beyond them (at 8, 7 and 2) and it is way beyond me until I can justify the time as time with my boys.

So it isn't "damn this useless device", but it is "why can't this capable device do these basic things?"

I know not everyone is where I am, but I hope at least that explains where some of us are, with our praise and with our damning.
