Well... you are the programmer, so you decide, but my proposal should be easier to implement.
In any case, my constraints were:
-easy to read
-should not take extra screen space
-should not imply vast changes in the programm code.
BTW, about screen space: I normally only use 3 icons. I don't have much space for more, and 3 days previsions are already very innacurate, so...

I have downloaded and installed the new version but still have the same issues as below. No weather update. Now in addition when I try to enter the set up panel the home screen resets and turns off all the desktop widgets.

Bad and strange.
I have tried your config. It has mistake.
Make next items :
1. switch off omweather plugin
2. reboot device
In xterm
3.remove omweather
dpkg -r omweather
4.purge config
dpkg --purge omweather
5.remove weather forecast files
rm -rf /home/user/apps/omweather/*
6. Reboot device
7. Check config file
cat /var/lib/gconf/apps/maemo/omweather/\%gconf.xml
This file should not be. if it be, then you need remove it.
7. Install omweather, reboot device and try update
Good Luck
Vlad.

Okay. I did this and when the unit came back up I was able to use the refresh option and see weather for London. Good so far.
Now I enterted the applet settings. Added 'Chipping Sodbury' and removed 'London'. Selected OK. Now I have 'NO STATION' and no refresh option, just the name of the town. Select this and the home screen resets itself removing all icons/widgets from the desktop.

Update: That white box stayed up while it was in it's pouch- until I went to bed and the battery was dead- when I had first installed it- the city list would not always come up sometimes it would be behind under parts of the window, sometimes in pieces- after a while It would come up- after being locked out for a day and a half with just the white box- I was able to reboot by taking the battry out over and over until I timed it to where I could end the appelet before the white box popped up- I was then able to uninstall the program. I did really like it when it worked- now I'm affraid to reinstall. I'll keep a look out for future versions- thanks!
