for some unknown reason i can't install .deb files directly anymore,in the download window that pops up i can't click on open anymore,how i fix this? i'm tired to save and install manualy every time.thanks

This started happening to me this week. I don't know what forced this behavior. But yesterday I was able to install Apache directly. Then I try to install another package... and the 'Open' button was gray again.

i for 1 am glad that it doesn't install automatically. maybe i am to paranoid from my windows days- but i like knowing exactly what is going on my machine and when- it also gives me the opportunity to keep a copy of the installation file stored someplace safe incase i have to re-flash

Yes, that is the reason why you have a 'Save' button. But if you want to 'Open' the .deb file directly, the other button should work.

I've had the same problem so I went and edited /etc/share/applications/defaults.list to include application/x-archive as a mime type so my open now works again

I don't have the share directory under /etc.

I have the same symptom. What caused the change? Was there some alarm in the system, waiting for May 21st to come and then POOF, the OS changes itself?
