@yosh I had the same problem. Uninstalling/reinstalling worked for me however...

DPad center will no longer work as START button. Please, use right-lower screen corner for START or press dpad center with a SHIFT or CTRL key.

i think it's really awesome that you respond to these, fms, and i appreciate it, but so far, the lower right screen doesn't respond to anything. since there is no slide-out keyboard, how does one ctrl/shfft the dppad center? thanks very much for the help.

Okay, hereś the update. If I hook a keyboard up via USB, I can ctrl/dpad button to start, and then the fire buttons work on the right side of the touch screen, but not until then. Surely there is a way to do this without having to hook a keyboard up. Im just not saavy enough to know how to do it. I really liked being able to use the dpad button as the start and fire button. Thanks for any help.

Lower-right screen corner responds perfectly on my tablet. It works as a START key. So, you are most likely doing something wrong.

Well, it means that the actual game you are playing expects a START button to be pressed on the NES joypad and won't accept any other input until you press the START button.

Surely there is a way to do this without having to hook a keyboard up. Im just not saavy enough to know how to do it.
Start iNES. Look at your screen. You will see the black rectangle with NES screen inside. Touch the very right-bottom corner of the black rectangle: your touch should be interpreted as the START key. If you feel unsure where that corner is, select "Show cues" option from the menu: it will show you where sensitive areas are at the screen.

I really liked being able to use the dpad button as the start and fire button. Thanks for any help.
Unfortunately, I started receiving complaints from other people who accidentally press that central dpad button while playing a game. As I am going to get complaints either way, I've decided to do it safely and require a modifier key (SHIFT, CTRL, etc) to be pressed. If you do not have a keyboard, you can always click the right-bottom corner instead.

i'm not sure why, and i hate it, but the bottom right corner does not respond, nor does any other part of the screen, to touch. i had already tried the cues, too. the only thing that worked so far was hooking the keyboard up and ctrl/dpad from there. then everything works. i understand that people complained about dpad, and i think it was nice of you to respond and fix what they were complaining about. you can't please everyone, but at least you try. if i were to reinstall os2008 and start fresh with ines, would it have the old dpad button configuration available? or has the host download from maemo already been updated?
