I added Hebrew support for the hardware keyboard of the N810:

Download the file to /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/nokia_vndr/rx-44:

http://my.arava.co.il/~matan/770/heb/rx-44

after this run the command

setxkbmap he

to change keyboard to Hebrew. When in Hebrew mode, Shift gives the blue symbols (as FN in us keyboard) and FN gives Latin letters (FN+Shift for capitals).

It also includes some small "improvements" to us keyboard: |, [ and ] for Yen, Euro and Pound, and Tab instead of CHR.

To return to normal English keyboard, use

setxkbmap us

After installing diablo and trying the hebrew package it wouldnt install, I changed the catalogue to chinook and then it worked, however after installing manually all the packages in the catalogue the arabic keyboard appears with English characters and the option to change language is greyed out, any suggestions?

In the keyboard menu select settings and make sure you have hebrew as second language. If he_IL does not appear on the list then there will probably be two () in the list of languages. One of them is arabic, the other is hebrew.

I have a better solution for the language names: Instead of changing the library, I changed the data it used. This allows to have real name (עברית) instead of he_IL.

To use this, download the file
http://my.arava.co.il/~matan/770/heb..._lang_name.tgz

and untar it as root with the command:

tar -C / -xzf ar_heb_lang_name.tgz

This requires a reboot. After the reboot, hebrew and arabic will appear in the input languages list like other languages.

I am trying to create a Hebrew Keyboard Layout and also use to vkb to achieve layout switch through CTRL+CHR on the N810.

I think it will be a better solution then to replace rx-44...

I need to return the CHR functionality to the rx-44. how do I do that?

Is the CHR key known as COMP?

i based my changes on Matan's rx-44, the main change is that i changed the russian layout from 'ru' to 'sc' and 'he-us' to 'ru' (among other changes). feel free to use the attachment, just dont forget to change the keyboard layout to עברית.
i am now looking for a way to achieve this without damaging the russian layout.

please assist...

The three packages at

http://my.arava.co.il/~matan/770/heb/test

should install the same Hebrew support as the MIA one click install.

I tested them both on a clean system and a system that already had Hebrew installed, and they seem to work. I want to hear a few success reports from others, and then I'll upload them to extras.

Hi Matan,
Thanks for packaging these.

I installed all three (culmus, fix-locale-resolver, then him-arabic) on my Diablo N800.

I got two () layouts, but upon selecting these, the keyboard area is blank.

There is no he_IL in /usr/share/keyboards/

Please advice,

After you select Hebrew as second language (in text input settings), open the keyboard menu, make sure the selected language is english.

Then open the "input method" submenu. Select Keyboard(Arabic).

After this return to language submenu and select Hebrew.

Now you have English/Hebrew keyboard with EN key switching between languages.
