hi...
this is my first post but im reading and learning from this site for almost a month because i have an intrest of learning to mod/hack a tablet.
iv been hacking the iphone since it was released and i might say im good with it comes to iphone. but i wanted a new toy and found out that tablets are way more beautiful and more powerful that iphone. so to cut the story short i bought one to play with it,
i had been installing apps learning to make a themes and wallpapers and i love it. (i have N800 btw) now im into this dual booting snd stuff and to tell you honestly iv been in front of the computer reading and making this work for almost 12 hours now and i am so sleepy right now.
i cant make this dual booting to work!!!
i already flashed my NIT 5 tyms and i surrender! I NEED SOME HELP>>>
currently im in the partitioning the mmc2 but having a result of "not found" running out of idea pls help a newbie like me... i just hope this is easy as an iphone....

im here right now....

A. If the SD card that you are going to use for dual-booting is not in your internal slot on the N800 (or in your sole slot in the N810), turn off your NIT and insert your SD card; then reboot.
B. Launch Xterm (Desktop Applications Icon > Utilities > Xterm). Type the following (except what is in brackets), clicking Enter (Return) after each line.

sudo gainroot
umount /media/mmc2 [someone with an N810 … is this mmc2? If not, please PM me and I'll make a change here]
sfdisk /dev/mmcblk0 -uM [note: that's a zero, not a capital letter O]
[you should now see a prompt that ends with mmcblk0p1 and a colon]
[the following is for an 8GB card; for a 2GB card use 1100 instead of 7100; for a 4GB card, use 3100; for a 16GB card, use 15100]
[If you want to understand this better, see this post.]
0,7100,0C [after entering this, the new prompt should end in p2]
,,, [that's right, you type three commas and click enter]
[leave blank, and press enter; this will be for p3]
[leave blank, and press enter; this will be for p4]
[you will be asked if you want to write this to disk; answer yes] y
reboot [at the # prompt, just type in the word "reboot" (no quotation marks) and wait a little bit ... your NIT will reboot]

when i type the umount/media/mmc2
igot a result of " not found"

Also, if you ever need to use the "umount" command again, make sure you put a space between "umount" and the media to un-mount.

In your post you said
Code:
umount/media/mmc2 - not found
make sure you type
Code:
umount /media/mmc2
(notice the space!)

Hope this helps

im up and running again!!!
so thats why it never worked! thanks man. im really new at linux. no idea of the commands but im hungry for knowledge.
quick question tho. what are the major benifits of having dual booting?
only thing i did it is because i about it here that it BECAUSE IT WILL HAVE NOW TO HAVE LOW CPU USAGE SO I WILL HAVE THA BENIFIT OF FASTE SD/MMC SPEED.

besides that what are the advantage of having dual booting? thanks.... im loving my NIT...

Here are a few benefits of dual-boot:

* safety; do all your experimenting on the boot part of your external card. if you get in trouble, just boot to your flash, and clone again. That way, you will never lose your basic funtionality. This presumes you have a well-equipped flash setup to start with.
* More space in the filesystem, but this is true only if your external SD card is bigger.
