I have searched for threads and solutions and ask for some help and directions - I updated to the "new" Diablo yesterday - even remembered to backup before doing so. All was well until I tried to find previously installed applications or re-install them from Maemo.org.
My list of installable apps is a short list now. The apps I loaded, - Canola and maemoMapper do not appear and the backup lists greyed out applications which of course do not respond. All my bookmarks, pictures etc seemed to be saved. Update does not update. I, after reading various threads tried to install Python, thinking it needed to be installed before canola or MaemoMapper but that too would not install - "unable to download - Application package not found" is the common message for all.
Just talked to a friend after he updated and he has a similar issue with missing apps . . . . .coincidence?

Thanks in advance for your patience and help

Try going into the App Manager >> go into the repo section >> then the maemo extras repo >> then add chinook as the distro and then all will be well, eventually we should be able to use the diablo but there is not much there now.

hello guys,
I found these steps on the internet (I had problems too finding the complete list of applications that used to show before upgrading to Diablo kernel)
I tried these steps and I can now see the complete old list of applications:
Here are six simple steps to perform the upgrade process and restore all your current applications:

1. Backup your /home/user to a safe place by hand. Standard backup tool won’t
backup every file you’ve at home and maybe you could need them later…
2. Do a backup using the backup tool.
3. Reflash the device with the new image using the flasher tool according to the reflashing instructions
4. Restore the backup. Some old apps will remain grayshaded because the backup
tool can’t find them in the now current Diablo repository.
5. Open Application Manager. Menu, tools, application catalog. Maemo Extras,
edit. Distribution: chinook, uncheck the “disabled” checkbox, Accept. Close.
6. Menu, tools, restore applications. Accept.

for me step 5 is the one that was missing, I forgot to write chinook.

hope this could help!

Thank you Ericdkirk!

for the fast response and apparently the solution - I have to say the instructions gave me a bit of a pause, but after looking and re-reading I realized it was just the addition of the old location for applications that was needed . . . maemo extras - edit - add chinook to distribution line - click ok and perform "little dance of joy"

Thanks again, much appreciated . . . .now, if you could help the GPS in the little tablet find it's ***** with both hands . . . . . .

Is it worth making these instructions sticky? It seems a lot of people myself included have had this issue.

Have you tried installing the 'agps-ui' app, you can give it an approx location and it should lock faster after you have set that, I think. I have not tried the GPS since my upgrade.

Thanks to linuxoholic and icelandr for the help with this installation problem. It works! Such a simple thing for what seemed incomprehensible. I only wish this had been on a sticky or somewhere else prominent. Thanks again!

It struck me that the ability to "print screen" to add to posts would be a nice feature here - a kind of "I get this when doing that" it would help those of us who consider code view in Dreamweaver scary territory.
Is there any way of getting a printscreen?
Am I off topic . .. ( did I get away with it?)

Yes. You can take screenshots with Load Applet.
