Are there any advances in this matter? I mean, it already works but the fact that the forwarded window disappears when minimized, but app still runs, is quite bad for usability. Or is there sight anywhere of an nx-client? (most unlikely, i know)

Bye, Val.

So, I have found that the 2.0 Free Edition NX Server from nomachine supports "Starting a new session or resuming an existing session by SSH -X ", which would be interesting (especially the resume part). But unfortunately I was not intelligent enough to make it working (nxserver is working since normal nxclient connects). Is anyone interested and skilled enough to give it a try and maybe could then share his experiences?
rpms' and debs' for debian, suse, redhat, fedora etc. are on the nomachine website, remember to install nxclient, nxnode and nxserver.
Here is the link to example commands:

Bye and good luck, tira.

It's been mentioned a couple of times about nx client/server but I don't know if anyone is working on it. I sure like to try it on the 770 but I don't have the skills to port anything I mean they got nx client for playstation2 and ipaqs and zaurus as mentioned on nomachine.com so I don't see why anyone with a little skill can't port nx client for the 770. Thin client is the future of the 770.

X forwarding on my machine runs great. Firefox-bin and amarok run as good as any other app on the 770. The firefox browser displays the current yahoo page (and any other ajax site) and as a bonus, I found tonight, that my think outside BT keyboard works in all the text fields! It doesn't even work on the installed opera browser without big problems (serious bug somewhere). If only it could switch to full screen, I would quit using the opera browser alltogether. Amarok is also displayed quite nicely but I haven't figured how to foward the sound (I posted a screenshot of it somewhere). The 770 is an ideal thinclient. It hasn't been developed to it's full potential yet.

I was going to take a look at NX tonight and see if I can't hack together a crosscompile (bearing in mind I've never used it...)

Configure amaroK for ESD output. Not sure how yet. Going to try shortly

So in theory, the following should work as root:

/etc/init.d/esd stop
esd -public -promiscuous -noterminate -beeps -trust

Then, on your linux box:
ESPEAKER=<the IP of your 770> mpg321 -o esd <somefile.mp3>

But for some reason I can't access ESD running on the Nokia. Still working on it.

There is some good advice (?) here re esd output on the 770. I still haven't got it to work, but I'm not sure how to configure amarok for esd output (it's not listed as an option?).

Got esound forwarding to work with Amarok by recompiling xine-lib with the esd use flag (gentoo). Then in Amarok selected the xine engine with the esd plugin and followed the info in the link above from Pycage (thanks). It's pretty freakin awesome to be able to use amarok and access my 20+gigs of music like it was a native app! Ssh x forwarding on this machine is great without even without the nx stuff. This was without ssh compression too.

Are there any special requirements in configuring amarok with esd output for xine? I emerged xine-lib with the esd use flag and started the esound daemon, but when I select esd output in xine it says only "xine could not initialize any sound engine".
Besides, there are more possibilities to stream audio over a network. See here for some suggestions:

Bye, tirabosco.

Try adding the line:

media-sound/amarok esd xine

to /etc/portage/package.use (not make.conf) and then re-emerge amarok. That seemed to work for me. I aslo re-emerged xine-lib with the esd flag set in make.conf, which I think you already did. Good luck.
