you can get abiword from http://rickybrent.com/maemo/debs
chinook | free nonfree abiword (v. 2.5-cvs20060720-0maemo2.1)

gnumeric from http://people.debian.org/~tschmidt/maemo/chinook/
./ gnumeric (v. 1.8.0-1chinook3)

or the experimental one from http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/
chinook | free gnumeric (v. 1.8.3-1maemo1)

Silvermain: many thanks for posting those repository details.
I'd previously managed to get Gnumeric onto my Diablo-tablet, but despite much trawling through the forums I was unable to find such a tidy starting-point to get Abiword. I now have them both. Cheers!

it would still be cool to have a lightweight ms-office-reader. gnumeric/abiword a great applications, but i don't want to edit ms documents on my tablet. all i need to do is view them in case somebody sends them per mail...

http://gronmayer.com/it/index.php and http://ageofikon.info/packrat/ are two good places to look for repositories and packages.

I just updated my tablet to Diablo. Is there anything else i need to install to make gnumeric work? Every time I try to install it there seem to be something missing from the download.

why on earth should Gnumeric require fanoush's flashing tools? that makes no sense whatsover...

try typing (as root)

apt-get -f install

and see if that fixes things.
