Is it possible to make the Chr button into the Alt modifier key using xmodmap of course... if it is... how would I go about setting it?

Well I dont know exactly. xmodmap is installed, so reading and testing. I use xmodmap to give me (tab) and (pipe) keys but I am no expert I had to learn to get those working. I would suggest creating a new thread for xmodmap, or do some googling...

good luck!

if you get it figured out I would be hnappy to include it in future updates

Actually... that was pretty easy. All i did was modify your .xmap file.

I just changed the line for "keycode 135 = Multi....." to...

keycode 135 = Alt_L Alt_L Alt_L

not sure if it needed all those repeats but i saw a ton of repeats there to begin with and so i just replaced the existing thing and turned it into Alt_L.

Then i just restarted KDE and it seems to work.

Hopefully, by doing so I didnt break anything.

Anybody with more knowledge on xmodmap please chime in and tell me what else i messed up by doing a simple substitution.

Just curious, when you (if you) go back to maemo, does that mess up the key? Or does it get reset when the new window manager opens?

good question... I rarely go back to Maemo now that I got used to KDE but I went back to maemo, opened up Notes and hit the Chr key and it seems to be working as usual but then again I havent used the Chr key that often so I'm not entirely sure what its supposed to look like.

Try it out and see I guess.

Hi there,
first I wanna thank all participating in this community and esp. the persons who contribute packages/instructions/help etc.

Then I'd like to hear some opinions on my planed update strategy for my N810:

I've still installed RX-44_2008SE_2.2007.51-3_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM,
I cloned the OS to the 2GB internal flash (mmc, partitioned and formated as listed below) without KDE:

Code:
Device Boot Start End MiB #blocks Id System
/dev/mmcblk0p1 0+ 255 256- 262143+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/mmcblk0p2 256 1919 1664 1703936 83 Linux

I want to upgrade to Diablo - flash the device with the new OS2008 image then clone the OS to the internal 2GB-"mmc" (ext3 formated + swap partition).
Then boot from the "original" (i.e. non-mmc) partition and mount the internal mmc over usb to my desktop linux system.
Download KDE358v2.tar.bz2 and SUPv4.tgz to the desktop and extract them to the internal mmc of the N810

Now some questions:
  • Can it be done this way? I did it with an earlier OS version and an external mini-SD card - so I guess it should also work with the internal 2GB - right?
  • How large is a system with OS2008 and KDE in MB (not the space needed to install it - but the final size when everything is installed and all installation files are deleted) ?
  • What partition scheme would you recommend ? (Are 256 MB swap enough for KDE ?)
And I do know that I can add a mini-SD card with more than 2 GB and use that, but I would prefer the internal 2GB - if possible.
Any other recommendations?

Cheers,

You mean manually untar instead of DEB? Sure just clone OS and untr those on top of it.

i just updated to diablo today after knowing that there is another update that will fix the modest mail from failing on the background. as of now i have not getting an application error on my N810.

and after updating to diablo i try installing debian. i didnt like it. uninstalled it and installed the V4 of KDE.

all i can say is WOW!!! i like it a lot. i have no experience on linuxx or whatever this is but this KDE is great. i love it. thanks penguinbait.

i began exploring the kde and i have not experiencing a problem so far but have a lot of questions...

1. some windows, i think is extended downward and i cannot see the bottom part of it... is that normal? can i change the size of the window? i tried dragging it to make it small but no luck at all.

2. i used the swap key to have a right click and works perfectly. but dont know how to dissable it. so what i did is copy the right click command and paste it on the desktop so i can access back to left click. is there a shortcut to go back to left click after enabling the right click?

3. and one more thing.... what is the hildon button?

thanks penguinbait for this awsome work... im now a part of KDE family. hehehe

edit: can i install some programs on the KDE? or do you know a program i can use on Kde where i can DL some MP3... like limewire, seeqpod or something like that? and i like downloading torrent... is there a program for that on KDE...
sorry for a lot of questions guys... i just fell in love with KDE and dont wanna go back to hildon.
