rdesktop works fine too.

The SDHC 48MHz kernel patch from fanoush is almost mandatory (and works perfectly) to have decent responsiveness in large apps.

Mind to drop a few lines for the uninitiated? Especially which version or which files (fanoush has made several files or several versions) you use for which OS, 2006, 2007He or 2008He. Or anybody wants to chimp in, be my guest . TIA,

So here are the details, bunanson:

Patch: kernel-sdhc-48MHz-3.2006.49.tar.gz
Flasher: kernel_flasher.gz

It's the same version for 2006, 2007HE and 2008HE since they all use the same kernel, AFAIK. Anyway, I've used the same patch for all OS versions with success.

Now, I have a question for you bunanson, or anyone who installed mplayer on 2008HE: How to get rid of the dependencies problem?

I've setup the catalog repository.maemo.org/extras with bora to get the N770 version of mplayer but it ask for libossomime0, hildon-libs0, hildon-fm1

Since I could not set a catalog to have these files through the application manager, I've downloaded them then tried to install with dpkg -i but it says conflicting whatever, not installing, for all 3 packages.

So I'm quite at the end of my very limited resources when it comes to Linux.

I installed the .27.n770 mplayer by upgrading to avoid the dependency problem. I remembered I already had .24.n770 and upgrade to .26.n770 and then to .27.n770. The versions are all from mplayer website, use only the n770 version, not the n800 version. It worked for awhile, and I flashED upgrade and lost it. I then have to install from scratch. This time I have to start with either .18 or .19 and moved my way up.

Hope this help,

bun

I've actually managed to compile mplayer.28 for the 770. For some mysterious reason, the 'gmplayer' launched did not get built, but the mplayer binary did and it works decently in my 770 with OS2008HE (except that it crashes if I enable tearsync, no idea why!).

You can get get it at http://www.phys.ualberta.ca/~pbian/n770 if you want to try it. If anybody does, I'd be curious to see how it works for other people.

Bye & Good Luck!

Do you have kernel with tearsync support? Standard kernel has broken YUV420 color format support (which is also a nice feature as it improves performance) and deadlocks the system when mplayer tries to use it. I would recommend not to force tearsync with command line options, autodetection should do this job fine enough.

Hi Serge!

Yes, I am using Fanoush's kernel-sdhc-48MHz-3.2006.49 version, which has the tearsync and yuv420 spport.

With no options, mplayer autodetects the tearsync, blanks the screen and then the tablet reboots. I added "vo=omapfb:tearsync=0:yuv420=1" to /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf and then I can play videos with no problems.

It could be a compilation issue. I used the MaemoSDK+ (with Scratchbox 2) and a Chinook development installation. I had to touch a few files to get automake to work, but other than that I made no changes. If there is anything else I can try, let me know!

Bye & Good Luck!

Update: rtcomm beta works with 2008HE! This allows MSN, Yahoo, IRC accounts etc to be used with the default chat client. Just follow the instructions exactly from here http://rtcomm.garage.maemo.org/
I have tested with IRC and MSN and it successfully got all my contacts this time.
