I'm currently looking at using the N810 as an alternative to rolling out Blackberry services at my organisation (a medium sized NHS Trust). There are a number of reasons for this, the cost of delivering the Blackberry solution, the (low) number of users who actually need this service and the restricted access to documents that BB devices offer.

The way I'm proposing to do this is via a VPN link into a dedicated Terminal Server machine on my network. This offers access to pretty much any application the Trust uses and not just push email.

I have tested the setup using our standard HTC 730W (Windows Mobile) phones and the Bluetooth PAN hack and all seems to work well, applications are usable and input is properly recognised. However the HTC phones require manual intervention before each Bluetooth connection can be created, which won't be acceptable for the (non-technical) users who I'm targetting.

Does anyone have any experience of a small, HSDPA compatible, bluetooth phone which can be left with bluetooth switched on (but not discoverable) and will accept repeated connections and disconnections without requiring the user to press buttons or restart bluetooth? I'm leaning towards the 6120c as a possible choice, so I'd be interested in comments either way...

Thanks

well the only drawback , if it matter and im sure it does is, there is only very basic (piss poor) PIM functionality on the tablets. what i can reccomend though is i had mine paired with a motorola Q9h so that way you would have at least halfway decent PIM.

elbowz - Can I come and work at your trust?! I'm also in IT at a NHS trust, and there's 4 of us in IT with tablets- we would love to get them on the network, but without a Microsoft or Cisco badge we do not stand a chance.

As much as I love my tablet I'm not sure I'd want to dole them out to my users and support them as the vast majority struggle with mainstream stuff. Sounds like a very interesting solution though. we have BBs and they realy are hateful things

As for your main question I pair a Nokia 6120 with my N800 and it works seamlessly without intervention 98% of the time. Occasionaly I get a "can't connect to phone" (or similar). I get the same message whether I have a signal or not, so after checking coverage, I just powercycle the phone. It's normally coverage though.

Have you considered the wimax model n810s as an integrated solution?

I have had good luck with the non-hsdpa samsung handsets without having to reset the phone or stack.
