MSN contact list is serverside so your NIT is downloading the contact list like crazy, and then the GUI needs to add all of them. Besides, would be difficult to find the user you are looking for.

To install the new IM protcols you have to open the AppManager, go to the menu, add a new catalogue. Erase the http:// and write in there "matrix". Then press CANCEL! You will be asked if you want to choose the RED PILL or the BLUE PILL. Choose the red one.

Then go to installable apps, choose the rtcomm package and install it.

Voila, there it is.

Is this still necessary to add the other protocols? I have the latest version of OS2008, (just as of tonight) and when I go to add an account, the only protocols it offers are GTalk, SIP and Jabber. I would like to be able to add yahoo and msn IM accounts as well. Does the current OS provide away to do this without going through the Red Pill process, or is that still required.

You need to add from thhe Coollabora repository from gronmayer the account plugins and the telepathy ones (if I'm correct is in that order).

I use MSN ... (that is the account-haze andd telepathy-haze).

Are they posting a changelog or anything with these recent updates? I'd like to know what they're fixing/breaking...lol.

Wonder if they'll get around to ever add facebook and myspace IM to the list of services.

I encountered the same situation where I could enter account info(e.g. Yahoo or MSN) but would not turn up on the account list.
Turned out that I had installed the Collabra catalog for Diablo distribution with component being "user". This was missing the telepathy-haze app (I think) - I had to install the Collabra catalog for chinook (component being "haze salut idle") to get that app. Only after that I was able to setup the accounts. Although I had to go and delete the multiple accounts from the control panel that I had created initially during the issue.

collabra with diablo and user should give you haze, at least it did so for me before i installed the SSU.

but chinook should have haze salut idle.

problem is that the only way to discover this (for me at least) was to aim a web browser at the collabra repo and have a look around on my own.

all in all, its a kind of funny error given that the ui works but do not give the expected result (a error message somewhere).

I just discovered, for my great surprice, that I can send instant messages using the vanilla Diablo SIP client to other Nokia tablet using SIP. We both have Sipphone (Gizmo) account. I'm wondering if it is "normal" to have instant messaging working through SIP?

Gizmo does have its instant messaging, so it could be that the Sipphone proxy is special case to support this. Maybe someone else with "vanilla SIP proxy" can try this?

(And just a reminder that video calls between two tablets using Sipphone SIP service works fine using the built in SIP client... no need to install Gizmo client.)
