Sounds sweet, I guess I'll just say screw the iphone and go with one of these setups. The real reason I personally wanted AT&T was to eventually screw around with some of the unlocked phones out there, specifically the Free Runner, but I'm too cheap right now to pay $400 for a phone that is not yet stable. On the up side, the unlocked phones should be compatible with the media net plan so in a few months or a year or whenever if I do decide to go that route, I can just buy the phone no problem. If I go with the iPhone, I'd be locked into the iPhone service for 2 years.
One last question, what specific AT&T phones will work with this. It is my understanding that the phone needs to have DUN or PAN bluetooth profiles. The phones I am looking at right now are the LG Vu, Moto V3xx, Moto V9, and the Moto Z9.
Any suggestions?
(Thanks for all the help)

palm centro and treos work like a charm, if you get a standard plan with data you can get an app called usb modem for $30 that will let you pipe the standard phone data via bluetooth DUN, not to mention the centro is $69 - $129 on at&t with and without contract respectively

I use a Treo 700p and bluetooth pairing with my N800. I thought I would need USBModem but the bluetooth pairing works for me so no need to spend $$$ on USBModem.

I'm using AT&T Media Net unlimited connecting my cell Nokia 6126 and my N800 by bluetooth. The only problem is that the thetering is not allowed with Media Net plan but if you don't abuse it with massive data transfer you will have no problem.
But be aware... if your data use is too big and AT&T realize that you are thetering they will charge you by kilobyte despite your unlimited plan.
