i have read a few threads and am already 100% sure that maemo extras are enabled.
pidgin is still not in the list, nor am i able to instal it from the site.

im running the very latest version of os2008.
anyother suggestions??

Ensure that the distribution field for "maemo extras" has "chinook diablo" in it (without the quotes). That was the problem for me.
