So hooking up my Logitech portable speakers (mm28) to my n800 and there is a lot of radio interference when I run any type of media player. This does not happen with my n770. I don't seem to hear the interference when I connect earphones or the static/hiss is too soft to hear it. However, when I turn it up on my speakers, its very noticable. I'm guessing I have a defective unit? Or is there something to patch this?

I'll have to test it out on speakers, but when I hook it up to my car stereo and turn it up I don't hear any static or hiss.

But just a question for you, when you hook up whatever to the earphone jack, does it stick out partially for you too? Mine doesn't seem to go all the way so the connecting metal piece is a little exposed.

I posted a video to demonstrate. The jack is all the way in.

The same static occurs on a 2nd N800 / Logitech mm28 speaker.
The static does not occur on headphones.
The static does not occur on a set of JBL computer speakers.

Since it only occurs with Logitech mm28 speakers, I propose that it is not a defect in the n800, but that there is some unique interaction between the n800 and the mm28 speakers.

Probably not going to solve this problem....

Don't buy mm28 speakers for the N800--for other devices the mm28 is great (got mine for 13 bucks at buy.com on a clearance sale).

I have EXACTLY the same issue with Logitech mm50 speakers and my N800. Haven't heard it with anything else connected to it including my N95 and laptop. Headphones sound fine as do some portable JBL speakers. Interestingly, I do hear a little hiss if I put my ear up to the built-in speakers.

that always happens when there's an extra ring on the 3.5mm connector

have the mm28, same here. im guessing it could be fixed by making a 4 pin to 3 pin adapter as thats the only logical reason for the interference.

seriously why the hell does this happen? my firneds iPod dock does this, and it DOESNT have any extra features (like video) so why would there be an extra ring on its connector? in fact, i'm not even sure it HAD an extra ring. why does the N800 react so badly to these extra rings?

i have another friend with an iPod touch and a connector to his home theater system, and it made the weird buzzing. why? because i checked and his connector was A/V (yellow, white, red composite), and it had an extra ring. I understand the N800 uses its extra pin for microphone, but WHY DOES IT HAVE TO CHECK WHATS CONNECTED when i'm using Canola (canola doesnt use a mic or anything) so why cant it just ignore and use the stereo out?

Thank you all for confirming this existing problem. I thought I was going crazy. I'll create an adapter and see if I loose the roblem, I hoped to use this on a cycling trip.
