OK, I partially answered my own question. I see that sent items are ending up in the Sent folder within the "Nokia N800" folder, although I'm not sure where this physically resides. If I then move sent items to the Sent folder under the Fastmail account, the messages are then synched back to the server. Is there a setting to change so that sent mail ends up automatically within the appropriate account's sent folder?

i would hazard a guess that everything is to be found in /home/user/.modest...

hell, if one use pop, deleted mails can still be found in there for days after they where deleted...

If you go to the Advanced settings under a particular account, and check 'Put sent messages in (browse for destination)', it should present you with a tree of folders on the IMAP server, and you can select the one you want.

** You'll actually want this turned off for specific email services (like gmail) that will automagically put your messages in a Sent folder in your gmail account.

Edit: Oops... you had mentioned claws-mail, and I suggested a claws mail setting, but I probably shouldn't have hijacked this thread with more claws-mail talk. I just checked modest, and I don't see the same sort of setting.

The only solution I've found, which isn't much of a solution for Modest itself... is reading my mail with another client (mutt on a Unix box), which shows the messages tagged for deletion (via Modest), and of course refreshing the view causes the messages to actually be deleted.
It's a bug. Search bugzilla to see whether your bug has already been reported and if not enter a new one.

Thing that gets me.. I use fastmail as well, with around 20 folders all sorted server side. Thus, I get new mail in -all- of them at different times. Is there a way somewhere in a config file to enable it to check all folders? Otherwise I have to move back to claws-mail.

Here's another one using Fastmail service...and I've got the same problem as well. Not really a complete IMAP implementation here....or hopefully there is a hidden setting that may save us.

I've finally had it with Modest. Downloads half an email's content, email delivered with content missing, emails impossible to delete, no 'delete from server or device' choice, too many crashes, have to go via menu to choose account views.

Is it possible to go back to the original Chinook mail app? I really liked that, simple, solid and reliable.

I find it hard to believe there aren't more complaints about Modest.

In fact ... people complaining with modest due to problem are often related to server which doesn't respect imap/pop3 protocol standard.

As few server isn't compliant, there is just a few complaint.

For me it moslty works, but occassionally there are some mails it would not show content for. I reverted to the excellent fastmail webmail interface actually...
