I use grandcentral + gizmo + internet call for free incoming and outgoing calls. The problem is , after a call is initiated, DTMF dialing stops working, which means I cannot press a number to respond to the request of the other end.

Am I the only person who has this problem? How do people get around it?

I have this problem as well. I remember that there was some workaround, but it did not work for me, and maybe it won't work in diablo at all. Usually I don't need this feature, so its no big deal. Other times, say when I want to activate a Jott account to use grandcentral, I simply change the active telephone in GC to my home phone or cell phone. Thats my "work around"

This is a bug in OS2008. It has been around since the beginning of OS2008 and has never been fixed even after almost one year. DTMF worked fine in OS2007.

It was initially reported as bug number 2756 in the Maemo bugzilla. Unfortunately the person reporting the problem reported it as having to do with Google GrandCentral service, which it has absolutely nothing to do with the problem. So the problem was never investigated. I reopened a new bug as bugzilla number 3652, but the Nokia employees responsible closed the issue without resolving it.

Since usage with SIP was the original reason I purchased my tablet, and I badly need DTMF, Nokia's response to this is very frustrating. I either have to use and pay for Skype, or use OS2007 and forgo my bluetooth keyboard. Neither alternative is reasonable since Maemo DTMF should work properly or be fixed. There is no excuse.

I suppose I will have to try and install Twinkle or something in Debian since Nokia refuses to address the issue in Maemo. If anyone knows of an alternative VoIP app which works in OS2008 or in Debian I would be very interested.

gnexus, BOTH bug reports clearly list GrandCentral and this is a KNOWN GRANDCENTRAL BUG.

http://groups.google.com/group/grand...15d1003dd35db4

I can send DTMF tones just fine to an IVR system if I call directly though sipphone. In fact I just did NOW under Diablo.

1) signon to sipphone account through native sip "account"
2) open internet call
3) dial 18002341490 ( Dell support )
4) Wait for the prompt, press 3 "or DTMF pad 3"

IT WORKS!

If you have a reproducible bug that does not involve GrandCentral post a NEW bug report that has appropriate reproduction steps including the number you are calling since it clearly work for the numbers that I have been calling.

I have never used GrandCentral. I had never even heard of it until I tried to look up the problem in Maemo bugzilla before reporting a new bug.

You are using Gizmo for your DTMF. I imagine it does work fine in that, as that is not the application being referred to. I use a standard SIP provider. I like the SipPhone service, but I don't like or use the Gizmo app. I need a standard VoIP app.

The problem referred to is a problem with the Maemo OSSO application "Internet Call." This application was made by Nokia Open Source Software Operations, which probably means it's closed-source. DTMF worked correctly in OS2007. DTMF does not work in OS2008 "Internet Call" after the call is initiated. Period.

I tried creating a new bug. The Maemo bug keepers, however, did not wish to acknowledge the bug. That is another reason why I hate all this Maemo business - it's hard to get decent support with proprietary software and such a small installed base. I doubt a bug of this type would go unresolved for a year with Debian. I wish Debian was a bit more usable in the tablet. . . at this point my only reasonable alternative is to try to install the Twinkle VoIP app in Debian, or ditch my tablet or use Skype. OTOH, if DTMF works in Gizmo for you then maybe that is another alternative I can try! Thank you for that idea!

Unfortunately, however, Gizmo only supports a single SIP account. There are other issues also with it which I do not like, but at least you can use your own SIP account, which you can't do with Skype.

Gizmo is only a workaound, however, the bug in "Internet Call" is still there. . .

Did you read my steps..

I AM using the nokia, built-in, internet call VoIP application and DTMF after call is initiated. I use a sipphone account ( gizmo ) entered into the Nokia native "accounts" and dialed and navigated a IVR system using only "Internet Call".

Do I need to send a YouTube video to prove it?

You tagged onto another bug report ( possibly by accident ) that specifically referenced GrandCentral. This was problem #1, GrandCentral's popular ( and free ) calling service strips out out-of-band DTMF tones in the call leading to exactly the problems you were talking about. I re-read your comment and you did not clarify that you were not using grandcentral till later.

Feel free to start a new bug that does not list grandcentral and list the number that you are having trouble with so that someone might be able to track this down. As I have stated this is working for me and other.

Oh wow!

You're also using OS008 not 2007? Like I said, it worked fine in 2007. To tell you the truth I would be rather skeptical that it would work for you in OS2008, when many others have reported issues. . .

I will give it a try with my SipPhone acct. to see if it's reproducible with that provider. I have so far only tried it with my two paid SIP accounts, but I will also give it a go with some free providers. I do already know that my provider does not strip DTMF, and that the application worked properly in OS2007.

Anyway, I really appreciate the Gizmo idea as a workaround, even if you weren't using it

Ok brontide, I believe you now. . .

Calling 18002341490 ( Dell support ) actually works!!!

Calling 1-888-NOKIA-2U (1-888-665-4228) works too. . .

Probably Microsoft also works. . .

. . . but when I call a number I actually need to contact, then "Internet Call" DTMF does not work. . .

Maybe Nokia doesn't like us calling certain numbers
