Better job does Sirf III gps.
You left out "In Soviet Russia, " on that; without the lead-in, it loses all the humor.

"The main advantage of Assisted GPS (AGPS) for the iPhone is that it will allow the iPhone’s GPS to operate in weaker signal conditions and determine positioning quicker than most standalone GPS receivers. AGPS also helps save battery power by handing off some computational duties to an assistance server and by allowing iPhone users to turn GPS off and on with less inconvenience."
The above is about iPhone 3G.

The original iPhone uses WiFi for positioning; Skyhook Wireless's proprietary solution.

Darius, you have a good point in some sense but you don't understand a lot of technical details.

Sirf III runs on ye olde TomTom, but these devices don't do much except navigation. A NIT can do so much more.

I think the fact you bought a 10 USD Sirf III with BlueTooth was a good choice, and I think it is best to leave it as-is. Nokia is pretty much aware of the quality of their on-board GPS chipset on the N810.

There can be a lot more other reasons but for the meantime, the GPS on both devices does their job.

You have been quite a character over at the maemo.org mailing list. You have been called a lot of different names there as you have been spamming the list with your unhelpful, stubborn, and egotistic remarks. I've also seen articles and articles about your reputation from different forums and blogs.

If you are here to just attack members and disrupt the community, please find a different forum or site with folks that are willing to compete and spar with you.
So what is your reputation ?
Collecting personal records, files for use in discussion.
You have lost any credibility, violating Personal Data Protection Acts.
Shame on you.
I am fully aware of your frustrations.
Nokia lost No.1 in global market.
Shares fallen 10%
N810 is no more hot product.

I can expect (by market analysis - source Bloomberg)
maemo manufacture lines to close soon.

Nokia Stock Falls the Most Since April on Market Share Forecast

By Juho Erkheikki

Sept. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Nokia Oyj, the world's biggest maker of mobile phones, fell the most in almost five months in Helsinki trading after forecasting a drop in third-quarter market share because competitors slashed prices and a new handset was delayed.

Nokia fell 9.6 percent. While demand will be hurt by ``weaker consumer confidence in multiple markets,'' the Espoo, Finland-based company stuck to a forecast of 10 percent industry growth in 2008. Previously, Nokia had said market share would be about the same as the second quarter's 40 percent.

``The company is building up its portfolio, which is a bit old-fashioned,'' Schroder said.

A1GPS - introduced by iphone is triangulation based navigation without gps chip

A2GPS - introduced by Motorola in A1000 is slow gps chip/ slow signal
navigation supported by network triangulation data to get fix
faster
A3GPS - is high tech Sirf III chip quality navigation
and network assistance is offered as value added.

As A3GPS is fast, reliable, no need to use network support (look
gps car navigation)
(to get more details visit Navigation Semantic Magazines by VIPs in navigation - NAVTEQ, TOMTOM and others)
http://www.tinyurl.com/iDarius

A3GPS vs. Sirf III quality navigation is not free as gprs data transfer is not for free.

There is a number of A3GPS systems in operations.
Some for use in cell phone.
Maps are downloaed on-line/ live (vector maps )or preloaded to memory.
Routing is generated at home or requested and downloaded from remote
server (Google Maps and others).

Main difference between A3GPS and Sirf III GPS
is in open options offered.

A3GPS can be used for tracking people, tracking vehicles on-line.
Children, minor can be tracked by parents, forwarding request to cell telephony operator.

Any A3GPS device on file can be tracked by police.

A2GPS offered by Nokia in N810 was

Default A-GPS Beta MUCH improved GPS on N810
Well, previously the internal GPS on the N810 taking hours, yes hours mostly, I know in the house, moving location by about 25 miles...etc. vs my iTrek taking seconds or at most a few mins....I am now glad to say it seems that the Nokia A-GPS Beta (from Nokia) has improved the N810's GPS use or is it Diablo and/or Diablo and the A-GPS.......In any case...mins the last few times (Yes from the same places as previously).
"
The issue with any AGPS is person, vehicle tracking data can be sent to
central server run by another company for other uses.

One known to me developer of AGPS car navigation claims to have been using such collected tracks of vehicles for use in making better routing
based on live data (like collected vehicle speed, traffic jams and the like).

And finally Reggie,
I am really not interested why your dick is small and what your sexual problems really are.
I am not interested in opinions what others say about you.
I don't collect your personal data, interests, sexual orientation,
religion, political views, opinions by others about you as I am simply not interested in dicussions ad personam.

Just watch subject line
"
Why aGPS in N810, iPhone ?
"
Nothing personal.
