i've not asked for what the AGPS beta is intended for, but if it is POSSIBLE to install it in chinook. maybe with some "tricks" like force install of all required libs...

edit: so i have searched now at all nokia repositories (not diablo update, because i do not have the password) for these libs, but i did not find them...
maybe someone with diablo installed can help me out?
the libs are stored in /usr/lib
i need at least libglib2.12.12-1osso10
libosso2.16
supl-daemon0.27
i think the supl-daemon is downloadable.
thanks very much. it will help all chinook user.

You can tell that A-GPS is working if, when you go to the GPS connection status page, you see some numbers prefilled in the first 5 or 6 slots. This means that the GPS knows what satellites to look for. If all the slots are blank, it has to manually look for the satellites like normal.

DANG!!
Just reflashed everything and loaded in my eastern maps, which took over an hour. I suspect it had been trying to lock during the process. BUT the n810 has not been closer than 6 feet to a window.
I was shocked to see it locked on in 2 seconds.
Never before was i able to get it to lock on while in the center of my house.
/edit
I had planned on firing it off and putting it on the back porch. If it had worked like this before noone would have complained about it.

And DANG
Upgraded Diablo

When first installed Diablo and ran AGPS all was well. Fix times were less than a minute.
After I installed Diablo update and cloned to my internal 2gb mmc all was not well, fix times went back to A LONG TIME.

Procedure I use:
I fire off AGPS
I try to put the point within a degree N and W of my position (why can’t we enter numbers? or at least zoom into the continent)
I fire off Map w/GPS
I fire off Maemo mapper, check satellites in Maemo mapper
6 satellites or 7 sats show up in view.
I go away for 5 to 10 minutes - no satellites in use.

I’ve got the same clear sky where it ran quickly before the Diablo upgrade.

Are there any known apps that interfere with it?
Are there certain files I could clean out and reinstall?

My profession is mapping and this is very frustrating.
as posted over on the blog.

Any idea what could be wrong?

/edit - this is all done in the same place, my backporch, it locked pretty good before the upgrade.

Does a-gps have to be running before firing up a map/gps app?

No, you should run the agps-ui before starting the GPS (and close it). If the GPS is running, no assistance data are downloaded.

There are two effects which need to be separated in all this bother about agps and our N810s, one is the crapness of the chipset and the other is possible malfunctions in the agps process.

I fire off Maemo mapper, check satellites in Maemo mapper
6 satellites or 7 sats show up in view.
I go away for 5 to 10 minutes - no satellites in use.
Assuming these were the correct satellites (i.e. it didn't download data for the wrong region, or didn't keep its last set of assistance data), then this indicates that the chipset itself is at fault. The easiest way to check this is to use another decent GPS and check that the satellite numbers initially displayed are the same ones that are locked on to.

Where is the data kept so I could wipe it out?

/var/lib/gps/nvd_data iirc

You may find that the assistance data are automatically scrubbed if you start the GPS and it doesn't manage to connect. It would be interesting to know the logic behind this in any case.

I'd like to know too if it's possible to get A-GPS Beta running under chinook.

It ought to be, but really just update to diablo.

If you want to try, and you won't get much support as most people run diablo now, you'll need to add the supl* packages, update gpsd (probably) and also update gpsdriver (whichever package that lives in). That would be a good starting point anyway.
