When I tried to install XChat, I got a message that the program wasn't able to be installed. Pidgin's built in IRC crashes on me on my PC (running Ubuntu), so I don't want to even try using it for IRC.

Is there another IRC client I can install or does anyone know when XChat will be updated?

I searched the forum, and I found a thread about IRC on the 800, but I wasn't sure if the answers applied.

I used to have Xchat on my old 770, and it worked somehow (with quite a few glitches because it wasn't properly hildonized). I'm sad to hear it doesn't even install now... OTOH, i never found it in any repository recenty...

Whatever... I'd also love to see an IRC client again. Pidgin might work (it worked for me on the desktop at least, never tried it on the tablet), it might even be that we'll see IRC in the standard telepathy setup one day, but I never felt IM-clients make good IRC clients. XChat would really be cool, but it really needs some re-work to behave nicely on the tablets. Probably you'd even want to remove some functions in order to streamline it and make for less settings dialogs.

So if I just sit back and wait it'll hit extras one of these days? Cool. Was one of the first applications I had running on my 770.

If you install the RTCOMM beta, you'll be able to use your tablet's standard Chat program for IRC. Installation of RTCOMM beta on Diablo can be troublesome though, and even after a successful installation, Chat makes an unimpressive IRC client.

Give Pidgin a shot. It's really stable on my n810.

Here is a version from 4 april 2008, ported by qwerty12.

However Irssi is a console client, not a GUI client.

I have had good luck with irssi; its a simple console client that is easy to use.
