Hello all. I just got myself a Nokia 770 w/ the 2006 OS. So far I've been pretty happy with one major exception. The wireless connection keeps dropping out on me. I connect to two different access points (linksys wtr54g and a dlink gsmd6000) and both due the same. The connection icon at the top of the screen doesn't change, but I lose network connectivity. If I disconnect and re-connect it comes back. I've dropped down to an xterm and run dmesg when it happens and it seems to be related to power conservation (can't remember the exact message and don't have the device in front of me at the moment).

Does anyone else have this problem? I wanted to use the device for network access (web browsing, vnc, etc..), but it's getting pretty anonying to have to keep disconnect and reconnect to keep the wlan connection going.

I noticed that too and find it anoying (but I like the battery life). What I do is press Play on the internet radio applet, let it connect and start buffering, then press stop.
It only happens when the connection is idle for a few minutes.

is there any way to tweak the connection idle timer?

I had a continuous ping going from another machine on my network to my nokia (couldn't find a working ping on the nokia) and it still dropped the connection really quick.

You could just play an internet radio station.

You might want to report this to the bugs list,

I don't think it's a bug. I think it's a power saving feature.

All these power saving "features" of which I have no control are REALLY beginning to annoy me. I especially love the one where my Nokia decides to randomly turn itself on and drain its batteries. If I shut a device off, I want it to stay off, damnit!

I had this issue, and eventually got sick of streaming Randi Rhodes while browsing N770 at home,
so, I started tweaking with my wireless router.

I don't know if it was my adjusting which wireless channel is used on my router (6 or 10 or 1...) or whether it was when I preset a specific IP address (192.168.1.120) for the Nokia both on the N770 and my router,

but whichever it was, my tweaking (3 months ago) solved the problem and I haven't experienced a dropped home wireless connection since.

seems my problem is related to wpa. i've got two access points at home, one runs wep the other wpa. when i connect to the wep one all is fine, the connection doesn't drop. when i connect to the wpa one, it drops after only a few minutes.

the wep ap is a linksys wrt54g
the wpa is a dlink

i'll try changing the dlink to wep to see if it's a wpa/wep issue or a linksys/dlink issue.

I use WPA on a D-Link router at home without any problems.
Maybe it's a problem with seeing both APs ? Have you tried the DLink with the Linksys turned off ?...
