Hi, I am using N810 from Singtel and I can't update to Diablo using the updater from Nokia Singapore. It kept saying that firmware is not compatible. I have already sent to Nokia Care Centre and they are still checking. They did tell me that if they can't update, I would be stuck with the firmware from Singtel. I don't have a linux computer and I wondering if any kind souls could advise any other ways. Thanks in advance!

Get a Linux liveCD and use it to flash with Nokia firmware, maybe?

I assume you already searched for singtel here; there's 5 results at the moment, and one of them includes a discussion of success using the Linux flasher, so it's probably worth the effort to get a bootable Linux CD/USB drive.

Another option (but not one anyone's reported success with, AFIAK) is to rewrite the versioning information in the config partition; allusions to this were made in that thread, and it's possible that setting the version to some legitimate non-singtel version permits an update from Windows. Then again, fiddling with an undocumented config partition includes substantial chance of breaking things so bad you would need to reflash (from Linux) anyway...

I'm curious... Singtel version of the firmware???

To my knowledge there is no custom firmware provided by carriers, retailers, etc. I could be wrong (and I'd like to see it!) though.

My impression of incompatible firmware would be trying to flash RX48 over RX44, production image on a preproduction unit, etc.

Anyway, more info would be helpful!

There is; as I suggested, search on singtel; there's a 2-page thread discussing it, with a link to something on singtel's site about it, IIRC.

I also saw a nice writeup online of how to customize a firmware image for, e.g. corporate deployment. I don't recall anything about locking users out of upgrades, but if the Windows updater is cautious enough, it should be possible to trip it up like this.

Thanks to this (timely) post, Singtel may now become the rallying cry of the anti-HSPA crowd. OTOH, it's evidently straightforward (with current tools, and pre-Fremantle distributions) to debrand, so it's to be hoped the same will be true for the N9xx (if it gets branded firmware at all.)

Cripes. I remember that sort of thing discussed 2 years ago, but it was my understanding at the time no one wanted to bite. Then when it turned out Sprint would not be customizing a version of the N810WE (public knowledge) I figured it just flat wasn't happening.

I didn't search on "Singtel" to discover that because I stil thought this could be an "inappropriate firmware" sort of thing rather than the branding I thought wasn't likely to happen...

He's giving me a hard time. Ignore him. I heard that the one attempt at thinking resulted in him being the first live brain donor to medical science.

Hi guys, thanks for the valuable feedbacks. Here's the thread that indicated the version that's installed in Singtel N810.

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=21450

Internet Tablet OS version: RX-34+RX-44_2008SE_2.2007.51-3.4.SINGTEL_PR_SIO

This version of firmware is preventing me from updating to the latest
version. And the only way which seems would be to use a linux comp.
I am currently waiting for the Nokia engineer to call me. Hope something could be done about it! If not, then I would have to live with it! Cheers!

Why not just burn a liveCD or even a bootable thumbdrive?
