hello all. i've been spending considerable time traveling via car in the US and have been trying to use my n800 tethered to my sony ericsson k810i. i can pair the two devices, set the tablet to its pre-installed T-ZONES setting and get the little planet on the phone working. unfortunately, that's all it does. the tablet just says CONNECTING and never loads any data.

is there something else i'm missing? thanks in advance,
smoochy

You need to get your External ID from the phone and enter it in "Dial Number" on the N800's internet connection. Here are the instructions from the wiki.

"The Dial Number must be '*99***1#' - note that the '1' corresponds to the data account on your phone to use. Make sure it's right by going into (on your phone) menu->settings->Connectivity tab->Data communication->Data accounts, then select the right data account, then hit more->account info. On the second line is the 'External ID' parameter - this is the magic number that needs to go into the 800 'Dial Number' string."

Hope this helps.

The t-zones setting is correct except the proxy.

The proxy is set to aaa.bbb.ccc.050, which should be fine, but due to some bug, doesn't work. It needs to be aaa.bbb.ccc.50 -- leading zeroes break something.

You might also set the https proxy to the same settings.

The default dial number works fine here, so unless you've got some strange setup with more than one data account, you can leave it alone.

Thanks for the replies!

a different board advised me to change the apn to epc.tmobile.com. is that correct? i have a proxy setting of 216.155.165.050. if i understand correctly, i should delete the first zero.

i'll give it a try and will check back for your replies.
thanks again.

Should delete that 0, then it'll work.

As for the apn thing, I've never heard of that one; I'm using wap.voicestream.net (or something close to that; wap.something, anyway) which is the default and works correctly.

A quick google shows some references to that WRT prepaid plans, apparently they get unlimited data that way, and also it's apparently being shutdown in some areas. I might have to try it out, but I know the wap.*.* that the N8x0 defaults to works.

I agree with Benson. The epc address (also epc.myvoicestream.com) is supposedly a new one for their 3G rollout in select areas.

I haven't tethered my tablet to T-Mo, but it works on my phone using the wap.voicestream.com APN. Also try internet2.voicestream.com
