Maybe he does not know how.... Don't assume everything....

In this case use the super easy WUBI

http://wubi-installer.org/

Its really easy. It installs as a windows program, is faster than a CD, easier than burning a CD, and easy to remove. Yeah!!!

Hi guys, I got Ubuntu installed and it feels great! I just need some guidances. I followed the instructions as followed,

Execute as root (or as a normal user with rights to use the USB port—if you see Error claiming USB interface: Operation not permitted then you need to run flasher as root), replace <FIASCO image> with the firmware image you downloaded from Nokia:

For the N800 and N810:

./flasher-3.0 -F <FIASCO image> -f -R

I have the firmware and flasher-3.0 in a folder "N810" located at desktop.
I tried the command at terminal but it said,
bash: FIASCO: No such file or directory

Could someone please enlighten me? What should I input?

Thanks again!

Replace <FIASCO image> with the filename of the FIASCO image; something like RX-34_DIABLO_4.2008.23-14_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin (that's for an N800, yours will have some numbers different...) If you get the first few characters right and press the Tab key, it will try to autocomplete the filename.

that would mean,

./flasher-3.0 -F (name).bin -f -R

Right? Will give it a try tomorrow as I left my cable in the office!

Thanks again!

Assuming you replace (name) with the right thing, definitely.

To my knowledge there is no custom firmware provided by carriers, retailers, etc. I could be wrong (and I'd like to see it!) though.

My impression of incompatible firmware would be trying to flash RX48 over RX44, production image on a preproduction unit, etc.

Anyway, more info would be helpful!
Yes, there is Singtel variant firmware... Did You forgot where to look for firmware files...

But the best option, in my opinion, is to somehow flash the tablet with "vanilla firmware", so you don't need to worry where to get future updates. I suspect the Singtel variant will never be part of SSU updates?

Hi all, I have successfully upgraded the firmware to Diablo. I used the guide from,

http://fosswire.com/2007/12/30/n800-...ash-to-os2008/

It took be hours to understand linux commands cos I'm a windower hahaha.

Anyway, here's a short guide,
1)create a folder on Desktop and save the flasher + firmware together in it
2)open terminal, type cd Desktop followed by cd "folder name"
3)type chmod +x flasher-3.0
4)type sudo ./flasher-3.0 -F "Firmware name".bin -f -R

It will unpack the files and follow the guide onwards from the website and you
are ready to rock!

Thanks for all the advices!!!

Bro,
I tried the same method using ubuntu on my Singtel N810. I also got my Singtel N810 without contract so wanted to flash to the common firmware :
root@ubuntu:/home/phon/Desktop/n810# sudo ./flasher-3.0 -F RX-44_2008SE_2.2007.51-3_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

But I got this error message :
sudo: ./flasher-3.0: command not found

Appreciate all inputs how to correct the command line

Thanks.
