Try cleaning the battery contacts. How old is the battery? Perhaps it needs replacement. They are only good for ~300 recharge cycles.

i've had the same problem lately. do these batteries die so suddenly? i have two nokia batteries that i have used for more than a year. each battery has been charged about 250 times, and suddenly neither of them will fully charge. i left the nokia plugged in last night and the battery was only half-full in the morning. i have been using two different chargers. one is the original charger, and another is for a nokia phone. the phone charger gives a much slower charge but hasn't seemed to damage anything. i have used this charger more often lately, so i'm wondering if i've damaged the batteries or the charging electronics in the n800.

I've seen the problem but haven't paid much attention. I have about five cheap clone batteries and one Nokia one. My impression is that the Nokia one is usually the problem child. I just switch batteries when it happens

Batteries develop internal shorts from the breakdown of the polymer laminates. So, yes they do die suddenly. I find rotating 2 or 3 batteries every few months is helpful. They tend to die in 2 years or 300 cycles whichever occurs first.

I've seen batteries stop taking charge just like described above. Seems to happen more often with noname replacement batteries, or with old-stock batteries. This hasn't happened with my N800 battery yet though, it's still going strong after 19 months.

Good thing these batteries are reasonably cheap (compared to laptop batteries). I see the BP-5L (N770 and N800) batteries for around $6. YMMV.
