I am considering one of these units for my work and have some questions about the N810.

Purpose,
Use N810 for remote system admin., of boxes in work while I am on-call.

Questions about functionality,
i) Keyboard. Does this have these keys on the buildin keypad:

ii) Keyboard: will the micro-USB connector allow a keyboard or mouse to be connected? If not, not too much of a prob since there are BT kbds, but these drain more electricity.

iii) Is there a USB or SDIO card-to-100BaseT/RJ45 (for connection in the office ; no wireless available)

iv) Is Is there a USB or SDIO card-to-GPRS/EDGE available,

v) Is there a USB or SDIO card-to-SERIAL-PORT available,

vi) Will the Bluetooth PAN or DUN work with a Nokia 5310 Xpress Music handset,

viii) Are these programmes available in the repos for maemon,

I have an N800, and all of the symbols you mention are available from the soft keyboard. I presume the N810 also has the soft keyboard in addition to the hardware KB.
for iii, why not just get a "travel" access point?
for iv, I use bluetooth PAN with my AT&T 8525 pocket PC. Works fine.
for v, there are adapters available, but the ones I have seen go the "wrong way", i.e. from the big USB plug to db-9.
I can't help with vi

Just in summary, I use the N810 for WI-FI administration - mostly to find rogue APs and to help people connect to the network - kismet is very valuable but a little finicky - there is a whole thread devoted to it here. nmap also works well. Overall, the N800 is the most valuable pocket sized administration tool I've used, and I've tried a LOT of them :=)

Since it looks like the USB port can be used for a keyboard, then so long as there is some voltage supplied in another way, then would it be possible to use a USB hub, with a keyboard and USB-to-GPRS device connected, and are there any drivers available for any of these?

travel access point? I don't know what those are?

A simplier solution would be a USB/RJ45 device that uses PoE (Power over Ethernet). Still googling for this one.

Next step is where are the drivers?

Some additoinal questions that came to mind,

1) How many BlueTooth devices can be in operation (not just paired) at the same time.

In other words, can I have DUN (data(GPRS)) call to the mobile telephone in progress and at the same time have a Bluetooth HandsFree earpiece and a BlueTooth keyboard all running.

Why? I expect to have to talk on Skype using the BT handsfree, while typing on a computer over VPN back to work via GPRS.

2) Has anybody tried to have a data call and a voice call in progress at the same timeon their handsets? Would be useful to know if this is possible. I will buy a Nokia 5310 soon for this purpose (I know this is not technically the right place to ask this...

For USB ethernet and RS-232 adapters, check jolouis's store; he's got purpose-built OTG adapters (much handier than the lesbie-adapter + software switching method) and sells some USB devices known to work, as well as a few other things that go well with tablets.

With ethernet particularly, there are many devices that seem like they should work, but don't or are buggy. Compatible RS-232, it seems, are more generally available...

I've used a GPS, keyboard, and DUN simultaneously; I've also used a GPS, keyboard, mouse, and HSP simultaneously. (Haven't used my headset much since I got tetherable data, and I haven't tried PAN, but it shouldn't matter.) So while I haven't tried that exact configuration, I'm quite sure it will work.
For GPRS/EDGE, at least, it's dependent on whether you have a Class A (simultaneous) or Class B (non-simultaneous) handset; with UMTS/HSPA, I don't know, but I think all devices can do both...

Neither are particualy helpful.

I telephoned Nokia they told me that the e series handsets with S60 would support Class A. He said that the 5310 was technically a Class A device but the S40 O/S did not support this. He said it would be used as a Class B device. I won't buy one.

However, I resurrected my old Ericsson T68 and it will work fine as a data only telephone, while I can use my other Nokia for the voice calls. Perfect.

The next step is to confirm that the WiMax edition of 810 still works with the USB stuff for etc.
