You can also use partimage in ubuntu (or other unix) to backup ext2/ext3 partition. This is totally free

Only $4.99 after $20 rebate for Acronis True Image at NewEgg. This is what I use to backup my cloned SD cards in Windows. Search the forum for Acronis for more info. I wish I'd gotten mine for only $5!
