which one would that be? All the ones I saw on that site needed an external mains or 12v power supply. If I had mains power available I could use anything!

n810, ev-do c-motech cnu-550, varta charger 57048 with usb output 5v, usb d-link hub dub-104, cable nokia ca-70 (varta-hub), cable nokia ca-101 (n810-usb FA-FA-hub)
It's strange but it works fine

So you put charged batteries in the varta and that sends power out all the ports in the dlink hub?

Do all hubs do that?

This varta charger has has special output mode.
I guess all active hub can do this. What you need is cable between charger and hub power.

Its cool, but what I find strange is how someone is able to like this mess of cables... not useful to carry around...?

  1. It's still more compact than the "normal" option of a netbook with 3G/USB, or even internal 3G.
  2. Even if unwieldy on foot, it becomes much handier mounted to a vehicle, for example.
  3. It's a first iteration; I'm working towards a similar concept (my 2.75G modem just shipped), but drawing from my own OTG experiences and what others have posted online, I should be able to make a tidier package of it. The handful of people who've done this kind of stuff already could (and will) almost certainly produce similar results, when they stop to redo it.
