many thanks to both of you. im currently using the N810 now and I am simply afraid to stick the memory card in there again.

That's why I said, try to format it with your PC. Do you have a card reader?

One suggestion for freeing up device memory is to create a symlink for /home/user/MyDocs on /media/mmc2

I have a lot of maps for maemo-mapper and this moves them onto the internal mem card freeing up space in the core memory.

maybe thats what killed me. I installed maemo mapper and thats when it ate up the memory (hence my original problem)

I am just going to use the Nokia Map, and deal with it. It seemed kind of hard to use (maemo mapper) I downloaded a preset grid (using long/lat) and asked to go to close zoom level) and it must have killed it. (only the Nashville area nothing big)

Anyway I am glad to say everything is working fine now (sans memory card) and I give my thanks to eliagp
